On Jackie Robinson day, Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams put together a solid performance to help his team defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in game one of a three-game series.

Abrams went 2-for-5 at the plate with a home run and two runs scored.

This young star has set the tone for his team’s offense at the leadoff position and has held it down on the field at shortstop.

He carried a seven-game hitting streak from the end of March to the beginning of April and during that span he had four multi-hit games. Through 13 games this season, he’s hitting .296 with four home runs, two triples, 10 RBI, and has a .648 slugging percentage. During those 13 games, he leads his team in home runs, is tied for first in RBI and is second on the team in batting average.

Abrams is looking to become the first Nationals shortstop to appear in an All-Star Game since Trea Turner back in 2021.

And Abrams certainly has the skillset to make his first all-star appearance this year.

Since his MLB debut in 2022, you can see that Abrams is more comfortable at the plate and his strength has improved significantly.

“A lot of it has to do with growth and putting on muscle, putting the weight on,” Abrams said in an article from The Athletic. “Every offseason I’m in the gym a lot, this offseason at Maven.”

CJ Abrams Offseason Workouts Regiment Is Paying Dividends

That offseason work is essential and that work you put in during that time will definitely translate when the season begins. And for Abrams, we are seeing the results from that hard work and dedication he has put into his offseason routine. At the plate, Abrams does a really good job of keeping his hands tight and work through the baseball.

And all that starts with his routine work in the batting cages. There is a reason why Abrams was one of the top prospects out of high school. When he got drafted in 2019, he knew that he would have to put the work in when no one was watching.

Fast forward to 2024 and he’s one of the top young players in the league. And he continues to improve his game each season.

CJ Abrams and Trey “Da Truth” Lipscomb Give Washington Nationals Rare All-MLBbro Left Side Of The Infield

When you mention CJ Abrams and all-star in the same sentence, you have to understand that he makes a strong case to become an all-star, sooner rather than later. If he can continue to put up the numbers like he’s been doing during the early part of the season, he will have a good chance in Arlington, Texas come July.

The Nationals have found their shortstop of the future in Abrams, and it will be exciting to see how he develops into a leader over the course of his career and how much of an impact he can make on the game.

The MLBbro will go on to have a long and productive career and he will certainly be a role model for the younger generation that follows.
