Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton has had an impressive 2026 season so far. The 32-year-old has been one of the hottest hitters throughout the league and has displayed a lot of power at the plate.
Through 61 games, he has hit 22 home runs which is third in the league and has a .276 batting average.
There’s a lot of baseball left to play this season and Buxton can continue to add to that home run total. Last season, he set a career-high hitting 35 homers through 126 games.

With the success that he’s had at the plate so far, Buxton could potentially reach 50 home runs this season. If he reaches 50 homers as a member of the Twins this season, he would become the single-season record holder in franchise history.
In the team’s recent series against the Detroit Tigers, Buxton made his return back to the lineup after missing a few games due to a shoulder injury.
And in his first game back, he hit a home run. He would go on to homer in back-to-back games. Twins manager Derek Shelton was pleased to have Buxton back in the lineup. “Well, he’s better,” Shelton said. “He’s good enough to play center field. So, I think we’ll have to see, and still monitor where he’s at.”
“The fact that he feels good enough to get out there is very encouraging for us.”
Buxton has been the catalyst for the Twins offense at the top of the lineup. He is building off an impressive 2025 season where he had career-highs in homers, hits, triples, and RBI.
For Buxton, when he’s at the plate, he wants to hit the ball as hard as he can, he’s not too worried about hitting home runs.
“It felt good,” Buxton said after his home run against the Tigers. “Move onto the next. I don’t care about homers. I try to hit the ball through the wall, not over it. It just happened to go over it.”
Buxton has spent his entire career in Minnesota and he continues to cement himself as one of the best to ever play for the Twins. If he can reach the 50 home run mark this season, it will only add to his impressive resume.
But his main focus is on team success and winning games. “I don’t care about that,” he said. “… It’s the little things for me. At the end of the day, getting wins is the biggest thing.”
Buxton is the definition of a team player and wants to help put his team in positions to win. He has had a lot of experience throughout the course of his career and knows what it takes to have success in this league.
The 2026 season could be one of Buxton’s best offensively and he is on track to make his third All-Star Game appearance the way he’s been playing so far.
