Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Termarr Johnson is off to a slow start with Triple-A Indianapolis. The former first-round pick who’s still coming into his own has earned the respect around the clubhouse for his durable approach to the game.
Coming into the 2026 season, Johnson has appeared in at least 100 games in three consecutive seasons. He lives by the old adage “your best ability is availability,” and it’s been Johnson’s calling card thus far in his professional baseball career. Johnson’s offseason work on his body and how to keep it holding up year after year is a true testament to his dedication to his craft.

Termarr Johnson Struggling In AAA
Thus far this season none of what Johnson did in the offseason has paid dividends at the plate as of yet. Through 27 starts in 32 games he’s batting an underwhelming .161 with a 23-percent strikeout rate.
Unfortunately for Johnson slumps are nothing new as the Bucs No.6 prospect batted over .244 for the first time last season with Double-A Altoona. But, none of it has deterred Johnson in any way, shape or form.
“I have really learned myself and how to become a grown man,” Johnson said. “Coming into that, while also playing baseball, is really cool. I’m really grateful to be here.”
Johnson Is The Future At Second Base In The Burgh
The future infield for the Pirates is bright, with Johnson coming and No.1 ranked prospect via MLB Pipeline, Konnor Griffin making his debut at shortstop on April 3 after being called up.
Johnson is expected to hit The Show sometime this season. But it’s no rush to have Johnson with veteran Brandon Lowe capable of manning the spot all of 2026. Plus, they have Nick Gonzales and Jared Triolo further congesting the position.
Termarr Johnson. Get up. Get out. Gone.
