When Louisville Cardinals star catcher Zion Rose made the 26-man roster for the 2025 Collegiate National Team, it was all about his ability to lock into the task at-hand. Rose, the dynamic All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team selection made the training camp his own personal playground.
Rose went 12-18 (.667 BA) over six training camp games to secure his spot on the roster. During the July 8-13 competition, the 2026 MLB Draft prospect was very solid. Over the five games series in which the USA was swept, Rose hit .250 (4 for 16) with 3 runs, 2 RBI, 2 walks and 3 stolen bases.

Rose Says It’s A Matter Of Being In A Zone
Speaking with reporters in the aftermath of his play, the talented catcher was pretty blunt.
“When you’re going hot like that, you’re just rolling,” Rose said. “You’re not thinking too much. It’s almost effortless. You expect to go up and get a hit. Baseball is weird like that. Sometimes, the less you think, the better you do.”
Although he played well, Rose didn’t like the fact that the USA was swept by Japan and hasn’t won a series matchup since 1979.
“Anytime you’re playing, the end goal is to win, so the trip was definitely a failure,” Rose said. “It’s been almost 50 years; so, that was a disappointment, but Japan had a really good team. You try and learn from the experience.”

Cardinals Head Coach Raves About His Star Player
Rose is a born-leader who’s the epitome of a student-athlete. Cardinals head coach Dan McDonnell is happy to have a player like that on his roster that made its first College World Series appearance since 2019 this past season. That was due in large part thanks to Rose.
“There’s a lot there. Obviously, the first thing is talent. There are a lot of kids who have talent, and you want to respect their talent. But right from the talent you go to desire.
“Zion has the desire to be great and he has the desire to win. He really wants to win. There are a lot of talented kids out there, but his desire to be great and to win is what drives him. He works so hard and he’s very professional. He was a high-profile kid coming in out of high school and not all of them come in with the right mindset. Zion came in with no entitlement or nothing handed to me. He had to earn it.”
Rose’s Talents Were On Full Display
That talent helped Rose lead Louisville in RBIs with 67, tied for second in triples with three, was third in runs (64), hits (78), doubles (16), home runs (13), total bases (139) and stolen bases (31 in 34 attempts). The sophomore was fourth in batting average at .310, while playing in all 66 games, a showcase of his durability.
Rose was one of two Cardinals to make the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team. He also was selected to the 2025 USA Collegiate National Team. The team went a solid (42-24), earning a CWS berth.
