The Cincinnati Reds finished with a winning record of 83-79 in 2025 and like so many teams are looking for the intangible pieces to take the next step. One of those pieces could be the versatile Dane Myers who came over in a trade from the Miami Marlins in December.

“It’s been a smooth transition; I’ve been welcomed since the day I got here” Myers told MLBbro during a recent spring training outing in Arizona.

Dane Myers Is Off to Fast Start This Spring: Hitting .375

“Just be myself and play my game,” is what Myers said the Reds told him when they acquired him this offseason.  The welcoming words have been effective so far as he is hitting .375 through the Reds first 14 spring training games.

Myers was drafted in the sixth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft by the Detroit Tigers. He spent his first three seasons as pitcher in the organization before being converted to an outfielder.

“I’m a big believer in that everything happens for a reason,” the 30-year-old said. “It felt like I had wasted three years but in the end it didn’t”

Myers talked about his transition from being a pitcher to an everyday player.

“Playing daily as opposed to every fifth day is where my heart is,” Myers said, recalling his first three years of limited duty in the Tigers system. “I learned a lot about myself and how to handle pro ball. It taught me how to eventually get to the big leagues.”

Dane Myers’ Pitching Experience Helps Him As Hitter

While he hasn’t been on the mound since 2019, he still does have insight from a pitcher’s perspective. “Sometimes I tell myself what I would throw right here” he chuckled about being in the batter’s box thinking as if he were a pitcher. “I don’t want to be up there guessing though,” Myers added.

Myers played his collegiate baseball at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Speaking of his college coach Wayne Graham, “He was tough in a good way, and I really didn’t appreciate him until after I left and was done at Rice,” Meyers recalled. “He was trying to get the most out of the guys, he won a lot of games on his coaching ability”

Primarily a centerfielder it wasn’t a surprise when Ken Griffey Jr. was the first person Myers mentioned as one of his favorite players growing up.

“Barry Larkin was my older brother’s favorite player. I didn’t get to see him live but I’ve seen a lot of highlights and replays, so it was pretty special for me coming over to the Reds and letting him know that he was my brother’s favorite player” he concluded with MLBbro.
