Hi A sign of a good hitter is plate discipline. It doesn’t matter if you’re known as a power hitter, singles hitter or anywhere in between. In order to be effective you have to have a certain approach in the batter’s box and knowledge of the strike zone.

One player who has been known around the league to work the plate is Lamonte Wade Jr of the Houston Astros.

“I think its just something that comes over time. It started with the Terrapins (University of Maryland) in college” Wade told MLBbro about really trying to get the most out of every at bat. “You really want to try and do everything you can to make it hard on the pitcher” he added.

Lamonte Wade Jr. Joined Houston Astros In June

Wade has only been with the Astros since June 4th but realizes this is a clubhouse that is very determined.

“We are close knit. Everybody plays hard, they play the right way” he spoke of his new team.

This is the fourth big league squad he has been part of.

“There is a lot of work that is put in behind the scenes that people don’t see” Wade elaborated. There is always the slight learning curve though.”

“Late Night Lamonte Wade” Is Known To Be A Reliable, Clutch Hitter

A veteran player who has played on multiple teams such as Wade usually adapts to his new club pretty quickly. Aside from a new staff it’s the terms, different language, different signs that vary from team to team. General baseball stuff” he shared what can be different when going from one organization to another.

The native of Baltimore, Maryland spent four full seasons as a member of the San Francisco Giants, became a fan favorite, and earned the nickname “late night Lamonte.”

He was given that name because of his ability to drive in runs and clutch hitting in the later stages of ballgames.

“I enjoyed my time in San Fran, they treated me well and it was a good organization” he reflected on the 2021 through 2024 seasons.

Wade is in his eighth Major League season and knows that a big league campaign is a grind.

“A lot of it is in the recovery. Trying to take care of your body to come out here and play every day” Wade spoke about how he and other players are able to get through a full season as best they can. “There’s a lot of aches and bruises, the travel, every team and player goes through it but you take care of yourself as best you can” the 32-year-old expanded.

Away from the diamond, ping pong is still something that Wade enjoys playing when he can. He comes from a serious table tennis playing family.

“I haven’t played anybody here yet but there are a lot of good athletes in this clubhouse. I’m sure someone in here can give me a run for my money.”

The Houston Astros have been above .500 in every full season since 2015. If that is to continue look for Lamont Wade Jr. to be in the lineup as a first baseman and as an outfielder
