The Marlins lost starting shortstop Xavier Edwards to the 10-day injured list with a left mid-back strain. Edwards has been solid this season, his first as a full-time starter, batting .263/.337/.292 with three doubles. one triple, 11 RBI and 11 steals.

He was sizzling as of late and on an eight-game hitting streak that produced a slash line of .313/.389/.313. Prior to this weekend, Edwards has missed just one game all season, so expect him to bounce back sooner rather than later. The Marlins are 19-27 and in last place in the NL East, so his presence, glove and base-stealing is needed.

MLBbro.com caught up with Edwards at the ballpark. He discussed the season, how he prepared for his starting role, his top 5 shortstops of all-time and the relationship between African-American youth and baseball.
