The Colorado Rockies have not had a good season here in 2025 and at this point of the season the focus is on the younger talent. While the active rosters will expand to 28 players beginning on September 1 one of their recent draft selections who started this year in the minor leagues is already with the club. Relief pitcher Jaden Hill has been back and forth between Triple A Albuquerque and the Rockies this season. He was brought up on July 27 and has been a welcome addition in helping to stabilize the Colorado bullpen.

Jaden Hill Has Battled Injuries Since LSU

Hill played his college baseball for the LSU Tigers and was besieged by injuries almost from day one. Very early in his freshman season he had surgery on his collarbone. He began the 2020 season as a reliever but his sophomore season which was off to a great start was wiped out due to Covid 19. Hill was unable to pitch the back half of his junior season as he underwent Tommy John surgery. Despite the injury the Rockies chose him in the second round of the 2021 draft and Hill began his professional career with an E.R.A of 3.06 in ten starts in 2022. He had a tough go of it in 2023 as he found out firsthand the difference in Low A ball and High A ball.

“Going up something hits, you just have to keep learning from those mistakes, nothing is worth having if you don’t have to go through some pain for it” said Hill in an interview with MLBbro.com’s Justin Adams.

Hill rebounded and made his way through the minor leagues in 2024 and made his Major League debut on September 7 of that year. He recorded a perfect sixth inning in a road game at Milwaukee.

“I trust the work that I’ve put in to get me out of these situations” Hill stated to Adams of MLBbro.com about his mindset of being a reliever. “Getting prepared with the scouting report before I even step on the mound” Hill added.

The Arkansas native was hit by a line drive to start the sixth inning in the game at Pittsburgh on August 23, he had to leave the contest, and the unfortunate result was a bruised right forearm. Hill of course is no stranger to injuries and has overcome them all to get to this level. He has won his lone decision this season and the Rockies will tread very carefully with the right-handed reliever as their season will end in five weeks. The 25-year-old has an ERA under 3.70 in 2025 and for a pitcher who has half of his games at Coors Field, that’s pretty effective.
