The Seattle Mariners are going for it all this season. Currently tied for first in the AL West with the Houston Astros at (67-53) and sporting an eight-game winning streak, the Pacific Northwest is buzzing again and it’s not the Seahawks or Storm (WNBA).
Move No.4 Prospect Harry Ford To DH
The Mariners are led by switch-hitting catcher Cal Raleigh who leads MLB with 45 homers, and who with his 42nd homer broke the record for most long balls by a switch-hitting catcher. Raleigh also leads MLB with 98 RBI. The “Big Dumper” as Raleigh is often referred to main reason Mariners No.4 prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No.40 prospect Harry Ford hasn’t been called up to the majors yet.

Stuck In Triple-A Behind Cal Raleigh & Mitch Garver, Ford Could Change Positions
Despite batting .295 with 14 homers and 69 RBI, Ford has been left in Triple-A Tacoma this entire season as the Mariners figure out what to do with him. Not only is he behind Raleigh at catcher, he’s also second to Mitch Garver in the pecking order behind the plate.
While many believed that would lead to Ford being traded by July 31 deadline, the Mariners stood pat. The 22-year-old has always been a catcher, but baseball writer Keith Law recently said this about Ford during an appearance on the Bump & Stacy radio show.
“He’s never been a great catcher, and there have been disagreements going back to when he was in high school (about) whether this guy would even stick behind the plate,” Law said.
“To me, it may just be: what if we just go let him hit?” Law said. “He’s not the prototypical DH. It’s not going to be 30 homers, but he has a really incredible command of the strike zone, a great history of very high on-base percentages.
“That’s something – even if it does not fit our scheme of what a designated hitter usually looks like, if this guy posts even a .380 on-base percentage, which would be low for him based on his career, he’s going to help the team. And I think that’s what you try to do with him.”
It’s obvious the Mariners value his talent, and that’s why they didn’t pull the trigger and trade him. Moving to DH is the most likely viable path for Ford to contribute to the Mariners at the major league level.

Seattle Mariners Going For It All
The club was pretty busy at the trade deadline as they went out and added third baseman and two-time All-Star Eugenio Suarez from the Diamondbacks. In addition, they traded for former Cleveland Guardians first baseman and MLBbro Josh Naylor.
While both Suarez and Naylor as well as Raleigh and Garver are capable of playing DH, the Mariners would love nothing more than to place Ford there and keep the others at their current positions. That would solidify an already formidable lineup for years to come.
