The Miami Marlins were without Xavier Edwards for over a week, and in his second game back from the injured list, our MLBbro made history. On Sunday against the San Francisco Giants, Edwards put together a performance he will never forget.

Despite the Marlins losing 4-2, Edwards was perfect at the plate, going 5-for-5 with a double and an RBI, making his first start of the season at second base. The five hits tied a franchise record for the most hits in a game by any Marlins player. Last season, Edwards hit the second cycle in franchise history.

Xavier Edwards Hitting For The Cycle Is Just The Beginning to His Miami Marlins Career

He joined the team in 2023 and has already inked his name in the record books. Edwards is a player who can have a promising future in Miami, and he has proven that multiple times on the field. Earlier this season, Edwards went on a 12-game hitting streak and right before he landed on the injured list, he had an eight-game hitting streak going for himself.

And the move to second base was not a problem for Edwards either, as he already had experience at that position.

“It’s good to be back,” he said. “[I feel] great. I’ve played there the last five years, most of my early career. I’m comfortable there and looking forward to it.”

It’s safe to say that Edwards has been one of the Marlins’ most consistent hitters this season and he is not showing signs of slowing down either.

MLBbro.com had the pleasure of speaking with Edwards in May. The 25-year-old talked about how the season was going, his favorite shortstops of all time, and the importance of relationships between Black youth and baseball.

Now that Edwards is back healthy, he can get back to making an impact on the game, whether that’s on the field or at the plate.

On the field, you can put Edwards at short or second and he will get the job done.

“He’s a pro,” infield coach Tyler Smarslok said. “He’s played a lot of second base in his career. It’s more of just reactivating it into some of the special things that happen at second. But the feet, the pivot … all his skill sets play really well at second.”

Through 44 games this season, Edwards is hitting .282, which leads the team, and he also has 12 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Edwards entered the season coming off an impressive 2024 season where he finished with a .328 batting average and 31 stolen bases in 70 games.

Miami Marlins Xavier Edwards and Athletics Lawrence Butler Continue Rise To Stardom

And he has another opportunity to finish the season with an above .300 batting average while playing in more games.

It is not easy trying to get a hit in a single MLB game, but Edwards made it look easy with five.

“Just swinging at good pitches,” Edwards told mlb.com about his approach. “Keeping the ball low.”

If Edwards can continue to have success like this, he’ll be knocking at the door to become an all-star pretty soon and it will be well-deserved.
