The second half of the MLB season is here, and teams are beginning to solidify their place amongst the league hierarchy. The Oakland Athletics have all but cemented themselves as non-playoff contenders and are destined for another season in the bottom five of the American League Standings.
One of the few bright spots for the ball club this year must be the increased development of MLBbro Lawrence Butler. Recently he has elevated his game to another level.
Lawrence Butler Heated Up In July
Through the first 69 games, the MLBbro batted a measly .179 with only two home runs and eight RBI. Once the month of July came Butler truly began to ascend. In July he has batted .417 with eight home runs and 24 RBI. This month has already seen him eclipse the rest of his season totals.
Part of his success is that the A’s have left him in the leadoff spot. He is a great table setter at the top of the lineup and that is where he has seen the most success this season batting .381(.195 in all other spots). Finding his groove at the top of the lineup has helped Oakland boast one of the best offenses in July ranking top three in the Majors in runs, home runs, average, on-base percentage, and slugging.
In five games, post All-Star Break, the MLBbro right fielder has shown no signs of slowing down. He is batting over .600 since play has resumed with six extra-base hits in five games. Butler also had a game on Tuesday in which he was a single short of a cycle in an 8-2 win over the Houston Astros.
In the same game he also threw out Alex Bregman at home plate from right field, showing that he is locked in each phase of the game right now. In just his second MLB season, the MLBbro is establishing himself as a quality player in this league.
