Mookie Betts became the second middle infielder in Dodgers history to go 5-for-5 in a game. He has been the best player on the planet to begin this season and for the second time in three weeks he takes the top spot on Week 3 of our #HighFive List.
1. Mookie Betts
MVP awards are not won in April, but Betts, who leads the National League in home runs, RBI, walks, hits and runs while sitting second in average and slugging percentage has separated himself from the pack through the first three weeks of the season.
Tuesday night he recorded his third career five-hit game after he went 5-for-5 with two doubles.
Over his last five games, Betts is hitting .435 with four RBI and a .975 OPS.
He will look to continue his early dominance in a three-game set against the Mets this weekend.
2. Cedric “CM Storm” Mullins
Being a veteran amongst one of the youngest teams in the Majors and after having a down 2023 people can forget how good Cedric Mullins is.
He fired reminder shots to the League this week, capping it off with his first career walk-off home run Wednesday to beat Byron Buxton’s Minnesota Twins.
That bomb came days after he made a diving catch in center that will be up for best catch of 2024.
Mullins is slashing .348/.385/.783 with three home runs, seven RBI and a stolen base over his last seven games.
3. Josh Naylor
Since May 12th of last year, Josh Naylor has the highest batting average in the Majors and he continued the hot hitting this week to earn a spot on the #HighFive List for a second time this season.
He extended his hitting streak to six games . Thursday with a base hit against the Red Sox.
That gives him a hit in 10 of his last 11 games while racking up a team high .323 batting average and 13 RBI.
This weekend Naylor and his Guardians welcome Lawerence Butler and the Oakland A’s to Cleveland. Triston McKenzie will pitch Friday night.
4. C.J. Abrams
C.J Abrams is taking steps towards superstardom and he passed a big test by balling out in Los Angeles this week to help the Nationals win two of three over the Dodgers.
He homered twice in the series, one being a game-tying bomb in the third inning on Jackie Robinson Day and the other a solo homer Wednesday afternoon at Chavez Ravine.
He is hitting .350 over during his current five-game hitting streak.
5. Xzavion Curry
Xzavion Curry is a young #MLBbro pitcher looking to make a jump this season and if his 2024 debut on Jackie Robinson Day is any sign, he is going to have a strong summer.
Curry held the Red Sox scoreless through five innings, striking out three and only giving up two hits with one walk.
“For me to go out and perform like that on that day was a blessing,” Curry told reporters after his start.
Although he ended last year in the bullpen, in his most recent start on September 3rd, he went five plus innings and only gave up one run.
Despite the success, Curry was sent down to Triple A earlier this week.
