The Toronto Blue Jays have put themselves in a comfortable position as the regular season is winding down. But they have recently been without one of their star players.

George Springer Hasn’t Played Since July 28: Concussion

George Springer last played on July 28. During the ninth inning against the Baltimore Orioles, Springer was at the plate when he took a 96-mph pitch to the back of the helmet. He ended up being diagnosed with a concussion and was put on the seven-day injured list. It was a scary sight for sure when it first happened, but fans and the Blue Jays organization were relieved when they found out it wasn’t anything too serious.

“He’s doing all right,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said after the game against the Orioles. “It kind of got him in the shoulder, then helmet, and thankfully he was able to turn a little bit, too. I just had the chance to talk with him. He’s in with the doc right now getting evaluated.”

A concussion is something you definitely don’t want to rush back from. And Toronto is making sure they are taking all the precautions to make sure that Springer is 100 percent when he returns.

“George is one of the more well-respected players in Major League Baseball,” Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said. “Really, when any player is in that scenario, anybody who’s ever kind of stood in the box or stood on the field at any level, I think we all kind of cringe. Then you see it happen to a guy like George, and it’s even more so. So, terrifying. We hope he’s OK. The fact he walked off the field — that’s encouraging.”

Springer Has Rehab Start Scheduled With Triple-A Buffalo

Springer is scheduled to do a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo, but the 35-year-old has yet to make an appearance as he’s still dealing with the concussion.

“He’s feeling better every day,” Schneider said. “He’s hitting, running, today he’s taking fly balls off a bat in the outfield. As soon as he can get clearance from the MLB, (he’ll) probably play in a game, see how he feels and go from there.”

George Springer Finally Was Leading Toronto In World Series Direction

Before suffering a concussion, Springer was seeing the ball well and had a lot of production at the plate.

During the four-game series, he had nine hits with a homer and two RBI, helping his team take three of four against the Tigers.
