The Washington Nationals have an abundance of young talent and Nasim Nunez is a part of this exciting crop of prospects looking to bring winning back to Nationals Park in D.C. The 24-year-old minor league veteran is settling into the major league level of competition since being called up on April 12th. After attending Collins Hill High School in Georgia, Nunez committed to play at Clemson but opted instead to chase his MLB dream after being drafted with the 46th pick of the second round by the Miami Marlins in the 2019 June amateur draft.

Washington Nationals Saw Something In Nasim Nunez

On December 6, 2023, the Washington Nationals selected Núñez from the Marlins with the sixth overall pick in the Rule 5 draft. Núñez made the team’s Opening Day roster out of spring training. In 51 games for the Black Nats during his rookie campaign, Núñez batted a promising .246/.370/.262 with one RBI and the speedster swiped eight stolen bases.

Núñez was optioned to the Triple–A Rochester Red Wings to begin the 2025 season, but upon his recall up to the show, the Bronx, NY native, whose dad moved his family down south to pursue this baseball dream when Nunez was in elementary school, was 4-for-6 with two runs scored, 2 RBI and a stolen base after being called up in April and putting the baseball world on notice.

Nasim Nunez Is A Vocal Leader For Washington Nationals

The ultimate cherry on top was he even caught the final out. When asked about his performance Nunez, 24, said “we won that’s all that matters, all that other stuff does not matter if we do not win”.

He also brings plenty of edge, saying, “It was time for us to pop our sh*t.” Nunez has a confidence that fits in nicely with the young Nats squad. He’s also an extension of the Georgia brotherhood that exists throughout the league.

Nunez is struggling a bit, batting just .194 in 36 at-bats, but has the mindset and dedication to remain consistent and make his mark on the Major League stage. Nunez can be a part of the group who can help the Nationals (24-29) rise in the competitive National League East.
