NEW YORK – The Yankees have lost right fielder Aaron Judge for the American League Wild Card Series because of a right calf strain.

While Judge can swing the bat, he has yet to run the bases. Judge has been limited to running on an AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill, which checks on his running mechanics. After Monday’s workouts at Yankee Stadium, manager Aaron Boone informed Judge that he wasn’t ready to be put on the active roster against the Red Sox.

“We had an honest conversation last night after the workout – he and I and a couple of the trainers – and I just felt like he wasn’t quite ready,”  Boone said.  So hopefully we’re able to advance, and these are valuable days as he gets closer to being a real option for us. Hopefully, he’ll be a part of it at some point, moving forward. When that is, I don’t know.”

It’s not known how Judge hurt the calf. He last played on Sept. 16 against the Twins in Minnesota. This is Judge’s second time on the IL. He missed more than two months of this season because of a stress fracture in his right rib. For the season, Judge has played in 66 games and is slashing .241/.360/.511 with 18 home runs and 41 RBIs.
