Jo Adell has been covering the outfield in the Angels organization since being a first round draft choice in 2017. His versatility has always been something his teams could count on, but his power numbers have increased since 2023 including a standout 37 bro bombs with 98 Runs Batted In last season.

“Going into the year one of the safety nets was 500 to 600 plate appearances and that was something that was big for me” he told MLBbro about his regular playing time. “I’m gonna go out there and put out my best swings, I call them Jo swings, swings that can do damage. The rest of the lineup will take care of me if I’m not doing my job that day.”

His numbers were always steady as he rose up the minor league levels, but there was a time he had to restructure his approach.

I think everybody goes through that patch where they kind of lose themselves a little bit and reinvent themselves into something who they’re not or who they are supposed to be” the Kentucky native mentioned. “I went through one of those paths but have figured out over the last two or three years this is who I am and what I was drafted to do” he stated. “I got a call from the General Manager at the time, and he told me I was going to the big leagues” Adell talked about receiving word about the ultimate promotion in 2020. “I was coming from an alternate site so my first real games of that year were in the big leagues. It was definitely a crazy time during Covid but that first run out to Right Field was pretty surreal” Adell added.

Jo Adell Is Blossoming Into Veteran Clubhouse Leader

Outside of the Major League team, Adell has played for six different affiliates in the organization with three of them being during the 2018 campaign.

“The philosophy was if you mastered that level and showed you could handle it, they were aggressively moving players, I was in that realm” he shared. “Each time I got to a new affiliate I wanted to figure out what I have to do to get to the next one. Definitely a weird year, wearing three different uniforms.”

Adell is 26 years old and is well respected in the organization and definitely looks to help those who are starting their professional baseball journey.

“We want guys to be who they are when they get drafted” Adell talked about what the Angels want in younger players. “We want guys to be comfortable and go play their game,” he concluded.

There is a lot of optimism in Tempe as the Angels haven’t been to the playoffs since 2014.
