Victor Scott II has made tremendous strides during his second season in the majors. He has immediately made a significant impact for the St. Louis Cardinals and has been a key player throughout the season. The Cardinals are in a competitive NL Central Division and are putting themselves in a position to possibly win the pennant.
Through 78 games this season, St. Louis is six games above .500 and have played well as of late. And Scott has shown that he belongs in the big leagues and can make an impact.
Victor Scott Could Bring The Stolen Base Crown Back To The Bros
In 72 games, Scott is carrying a .241 batting average with three home runs, 24 RBI, and 21 stolen bases. He currently leads the team in stolen bases and is tied for fifth in the league. Scott could potentially become the first MLBbro since 2019 to lead the league in stolen bases. The last MLBbro to accomplish this was Mallex Smith when he led the MLB with 46 stolen bases as a member of the Seattle Mariners.
The current leader has 29 stolen bases through 64 games. With his speed and skill set, Scott can definitely find himself at the top of the list. During his time in the minors, Scott was known as a threat on the bases, and he’s translated that to the majors.
In 2023, Scott spent time in A+ and AA and finished with a total of 94 stolen bases and during the next year, he had 30 stolen bases during his time in AAA.
It’s safe to say that Scott had no issues incorporating his speed at the major league level.
Cardinals Manager Oliver Marmol Sees The Progression In Victor Scott
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol raved about Scott during Spring Training, and Scott has continued to have that same success the team saw during Spring Training this year.
“We’re seeing a different player right now than we saw last spring,” Marmol said in an article from mlb.com. “He had a good spring last year, so don’t get me wrong. Like, we were impressed with what he did [in 2024], but this is something I think he can hold a lot better than before. The consistency is there.”
“You taste [MLB], and you realize everyone up here is really good, and you learn where your holes are and what you need to do in order to be more consistent at this level. He tasted the big leagues and now he’s able to understand, ‘I know what I have to do,’ and to his credit, he’s done the work. He’s had a good showing.”
The work has paid off for Scott so far and the big thing for him will be consistency and how he can continue to impact the game in multiple ways.
“It comes down to one thing: Instead of being happy to be here, I want to stay here,” Scott said. “That’s where my mindset is: I’ve been in the big leagues, and I want to stay. This is what that hunger and motivation look like.”
If Scott can continue to find ways on base, those odds of him increasing that stolen base number will continue to go up and who knows, he may find himself at the top of that stolen base list when the season is over.
