Don’t look now, but Orioles star Cedric Mullins may have rediscovered his mojo this season. A shade under one month into the season, Mullins ranks top five among outfielders in home runs, RBIs and doubles. His 13 hits rank second on the Orioles this season.
After a sluggish 2024 season, in which he batted .243 through 147 games, atypical of his usual superstar-caliber output, Mullins is primed for a bounce-back 2025 campaign.
“I try to not be too hard on myself and I know I always put my best foot forward every single day,” Mullins told reporters in Sarasota at spring training. “It’s a matter of learning how I can almost compete with myself in a sense. Like taking 2021, really studying how that year went and how I was able to go about that season and really come to terms with OK, ‘This is what I was doing, how do I get back to doing that?’
“One of the main focuses was like, using the whole field. I got a little pull happy. So, continuing to stay focused on using the whole field and being disciplined at the plate. Being the table setter – that has always been my goal. I feel like when I have that focus, I can help the team in a big way.”
Cedric “CM Storm” Mullins Is One Of The Best All-Around MLB Players
At his best, Mullins is one of the most dynamic players in baseball. In 2021, Mullins became the first (and only) Oriole to record 30+ home runs and 30+ stolen bases in a single season. While it’s too soon to suggest he’s regained his All-Star form, the Orioles star has kicked 2025 off with a bang.
Mullins mashed two home runs on Opening Day, finishing the season opener with a whopping five RBIs. Mullins became the third Oriole to slug multiple homers in an opener. On Saturday, the former Team USA member continued to deliver for the Orioles, leading Baltimore to a comeback victory over Toronto with a go-ahead two-run double.
It’s still early, but it’s nice to see the Orioles star exude confidence at the plate again. Time will tell if Mullins has another 30/30 season in store, but, so far, so good for the Orioles star.
