ARIZONA – James Wood was the second-round pick (62nd overall) of the San Diego Padres in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft.

While he never took the field for the parent club Wood certainly has produced and reached the Major Leagues in a very timely manner.

James Wood’s Quick Ascension To MLB

Woods days in the Padres organization lasted less than a year. He was part of an eight-player trade when he was in Single A ball that sent, he, fellow MLBbro CJ Abrams and four others to the Nationals for Juan Soto and another MLBbro Josh Bell in 2022.

“You learn the business side of it real quick” he explained. “The trade was an adjustment for sure but I’m happy with where I’m at and I’m surrounded by good people in this organization.

Wood is listed at six-foot-seven inches on the roster with height and basketball running in his family. His father and sister both played at the Division one level. Wood enjoys basketball but baseball was a clear path.

“I think I always knew, and my parents knew too” Woods tells MLBbro.com, as he shared his thoughts on always leaning towards baseball rather than basketball.

“When I was a kid, I just always enjoyed the game. Just going to the field and practicing and hitting, it made the choice easy for me “Wood stated his reasoning for choosing to play baseball over basketball.

April 22 and April 23 are scheduled to be James Wood oversized bobblehead nights at Nationals Park. “It’s dope. I’m looking forward to it” Wood said.
