Jazz Chisholm has finally made his journey from the Nassau Bahamas to his true home in the Bronx, New York, playing for the New York Yankees.
With one trade, Brian Cashman and The Steinbrenner Boys may have saved the Yankees legacy and ensured more playoff success as we power into the 2020’s with the brand still strong, but at a crossroads when it comes to elite standards of winning.
Jazz Chisholm’s Arrival In Bronx Much Needed For Yankees Brass
Chisholm is a player that was highly criticized because of his bravado, honesty and inevitable consistencies at the plate. Some recognized it as a lack of proper development by the Miami Marlins’ organization, especially after Jeter left.
Others felt Jazz wasn’t the goods. Had no reason to be talking like a 10-time All-Star or criticizing veterans. Overrated.
In fact, in a poll of over 100 MLB players earlier in the season voted Jazz “The Most Overrated Player In MLB”
That lets you know a lot about how jealous many players are of the captivating personality Jazz has, complete with his colorful cleats, hair and ensemble of home run celebrations that connect with Gen Z fans.
He’s letting all of the anonymous trash-talkers know that he is going to consistently make a fool out of them while wearing pinstripes.
“What was it, like 11 players? I definitely knew who they were talking to, too. It wasn’t hard to find out who the players were,” Chisholm said, per Fox Sports’ Deesha Thosar. “I didn’t really care. Who cares what somebody else has to say about me? If he really voted that I’m overrated, that means you got something in your psyche, brother.”
The Athletic conducted a poll of over 100 players in June, with Chisholm receiving 20.3 percent of the votes to earn the unfortunate title.
“Like me, I’m not going out and voting who’s an overrated player because I don’t even know who an overrated player is,” he said. “I don’t look at people that hard. I only look at people who are good, I’m sorry. So you call me overrated, I gotta be good. That’s how I look at it.”
Jazz Chisholm Jr. Is Built For Pressure Of The Big City
From his captivating and flamboyant nature to his relationship with Derek Jeter, who drafted “The Bahamian Blur”, everything about the 26-year-old’s game screams the bright light of the big city. He’s playing the best baseball of his career and blossoming in a franchise that will inspire growth and force him to lock into team winning, while bringing all of the excitement, versatility, talent and intangible energy that he delivers every game.
After launching his seventh homer as a Yankee, Jazz moved into the 20-20 club, for the first time in his career. The exciting third baseman now has 20 bro bombs and 26 steals on the season. He’s come close in the past, but this is his first season since breaking into the league as a rookie shortstop in 2021 that he has exceeded the 20-homer mark.
The Bahamian Blur is one of five MLB players to record at least 20 homers and 25 steals this season (h/t Thosar). The Yankees not only have a young, dynamic player, but one that is blossoming as we speak.
Let’s keep it real.
In the last five games, Jazz is hitting .350 (7-for-20) with three homers.
In 13 total games with the Yankees, entering Monday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox, Jazz was hitting .296 with a 1.049 OBP, a slugging percentage over .700, seven homers and 11 RBI.
The Yankees were 6-4 in the last 10 games entering Monday night.
The impact of Jazz Chisholm is undeniable and he’s putting the 59 players who voted him most overrated (twice as much as Anthony Rendon who came in second) on notice as he continues to help propel the Yankees offense to AL East supremacy.
