April 13, 2024 is a day Simeon Woods Richardson will never forget. The 23-year-old picked up the first win of his career as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-1, in the second game of a doubleheader.

Woods Richardson went six innings striking out five and surrendering one run.

Our MLBbro might have pitched his way into a future role for the Twins this season. Despite being sent back down to Triple-A affiliate St. Paul Saints, the Twins were very impressive in his outing on Saturday.

“It gives you a lot of confidence in him and therefore gives you a lot of confidence in the state of what we have to work with,” manager Rocco Baldelli said. “It’s a 6-month regular season. I’m virtually certain we’re going to need Simeon again, if not for a long stretch, at some point this year.”

This start for Woods Richardson was a complete turnaround from his last outing during the 2023 season.

He made his lone appearance of the season against the Washington Nationals in April and went four and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and a home run. It was not the outing he was looking for, but he made sure to make the most of his latest start in Detroit.

SWR Is Back On Track

After his start on Saturday, Woods Richardson has made three appearances throughout his MLB career, with two starts and has a 1-1 record with a 4.60 ERA and 13 strikeouts through 15.2 innings of work.

MLBbro.com told you about his talent and potential last season on “Take That.”

To have a performance like the one he had against Detroit, after an abysmal one last season, just shows you how much confidence Woods Richardson has in himself. As a pitcher, there will be outings where nothing can seem to go your way. But it’s how you bounce back the next time and make the necessary adjustments.

Woods Richardson did not let his last start impact his performance against the Tigers, and as a result, he had a positive outcome.

The Texas native was traded to the Twins from the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021. He made his MLB debut during the 2022 season when he started for the Twins against the Tigers on October 2. In that outing, he went five innings and gave up two earned runs as he suffered the loss in his MLB debut.

As Woods Richardson goes back to the minors, he will definitely use his last MLB start against Detroit as a confidence booster. We don’t know how long he’ll be in the minors, but he will certainly look to go out there and dominate every start.

Hopefully we will get the opportunity to see Woods Richardson on the mound for the Twins sometime soon this season and let’s hope he’s on the team for an extended period of time.

It’s all about making the most of your opportunities and let’s see if our MLBbro can continue to do just that.
