Hunter The Cincinnati Reds have their flame-throwing pitcher back just in time to make a playoff push. Hunter Greene made his first start since June 17 on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Unfortunately, Greene struggled in his first game back as the Blue Jays defeated the Reds 10-3.

The Blue Jays put up one run in the first inning and added four more in the second. And then they added four more in the fourth inning.

Greene’s day was cut short as he didn’t make it out of the fourth inning. He finished going three innings, giving up nine runs (eight unearned) on 10 hits and striking out four. He also gave up five home runs. Definitely not the outing that Greene and the Reds were expecting to have. It was not his day and Toronto took full advantage of that.

It was the most hits, runs, and home runs that Greene has allowed this season.

Cincinnati activated Greene off the 60-day injured list and the 24-year-old has been patiently waiting to make his return to the mound.

Greene went on the IL after suffering a right hip injury, and it was a huge blow to the Reds.

In his last big league start this season before Sunday, he picked up his second win of the season after going six innings, giving up two earned runs while walking four and striking out three against the Houston Astros.

On the season, Greene has a 2-5 record with a 4.72 ERA and 104 strikeouts.

The Reds are in a battle in the NL Central division and with the return of Greene, Cincinnati will look to make a strong push towards playing in the postseason.

Coming into Sunday, the top three teams in the division were only separated by three games. So each game is critical for these teams and having a healthy roster will be very key as well.

For Cincinnati, that means having their young phenom being healthy throughout the remainder of the season.

Hunter Greene Machine’s Masterful Pitching Performance Finally Earns Him First Win Of 2023

When Greene is healthy, he has shown how effective he is out there on the mound. With his electric fastball and improved off-speed pitches, Greene can keep opposing hitters uncomfortable at the plate.

Despite his outing against the Blue Jays, Greene still has the tools to become a dominant pitcher.

After being away for more than two months, Greene will need to get back into his groove out there on the mound.

As a pitcher, there will be times where you’ll have dominating performances and other times where the offense is hitting everything you throw at them.

The Blue Jays were just all over Greene and they made sure to be aggressive at the plate.

It will be interesting to see how Greene bounces back from this performance. As mentioned earlier, the Reds have a fighting chance to make the playoffs this season and Greene will have to have a short-term memory out there, but also learn how to adjust so he won’t have a similar performance.

This will be an important time for Greene to be a student of the game and use these next few days before his next start, to work on improving his pitching and work on being effective against opposing hitters.
