It’s safe to say that no MLB player had a better debut to the 2023 season than Los Angeles outfielder Trayce Thompson.
Thompson was the talk of the league after his three home run and eight RBI performance against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 1. He became the first player in MLB history to have eight or more RBI in their first game of the season since it became an official stat in 1920.
Just one game into the 2023 season and he’s already making history.
The Dodgers dismantled the Diamondbacks 10-1 and Thompson led the way.
Thompson played the 2016 and 2017 season with L.A., as well as part of last season. He’ll look to have a more productive role on this team and implement himself as an impact player this season.
And what better way to do that than having that tremendous performance against the Diamondbacks.
In January, the Dodgers signed Thompson to a one-year deal worth $1.45 million.
This will be a big season for Thompson and depending on how he performs in 2023, the Dodgers could be a permanent home for our MLBbro.
Trayce Thompson has gained notoriety since joining the Dodgers
Thompson joined the Dodgers last season after briefly spending time with the San Diego Padres.
Before that, he spent time playing both in the minors and big leagues. He also played in107 games with L.A. during the 2016 and 2017 season.
During the 2022 season, Thompson hit .268 with 13 home runs and 39 RBI in 74 games. He also appeared in four games during the postseason and had two hits in 13 at-bats.
The 32-year-old also made an appearance playing in the 2023 World Baseball Classic with Great Britain.
And it was only fitting that he hit a home run against the United States in pool play. He finished 2-for-4 in that game.
This season, we could see Thompson being an everyday starter
There’s no question the Dodgers value Thompson and are very high on him.
Our very own Nick Hamilton had a chance to speak with Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts, during the MLB winter meetings and Roberts had nothing but good things to say about Thompson.
Thompson has a lot of versatility, and you can put him anywhere in the outfield and won’t have to worry about a thing.
To have Thompson playing alongside fellow MLBbro, Mookie Betts, day in and day out would be a wonderful sight to see.
Each game that Thompson plays in this season will be an interview. This brother has bounced around a lot throughout his career and L.A. could be a sticking place.
The Dodgers fan base loves Thompson and he has already displayed how much of an impact he can provide.
This year, L.A. can make another trip back to the postseason for the 11th straight time. Year in and year out they have been a team filled with talent.
And players like Thompson have been key contributors to their success. Thompson knows what’s at stake this year and depending on how he performs this season will determine his future with the Dodgers.
The MLBbro family is rooting for you Thompson. Wishing you nothing but the best this season.
