On Sunday May 31st the Yankees faced the A’s in what was the teams’ third and final of that series against each other.
After going down 3-0, the Yankees lineup decided to respond in a big way in the top of the third. Goldschmidt and Rice would knock in 3 runs to tie the game. Now, it was time for Aaron Judge to give his squad the lead.
With 2 runners in scoring position, Judge popped one up to center field for an rbi bloop single to make it a 4-3 ball game. Just a few at bats later, Trent Grisham hits a line drive to center field with the bases loaded for a score of 7-3. A quick moment later, he would steal second base on a double steal and then make his way home driven in by Max Schuemann to bring the score to 9-3. The Yankees scored a whopping 13 runs in one inning and won the game 13-8 without scoring any runs after the third inning.
It’s Been Since 2009 Since A Team Scored Thay Many Runs In An Inning
The Yankees batted around TWICE in one inning with 18 batters coming to the plate. The last time a team scored these many runs in one inning was in 2009, courtesy of the Red Sox. The Yankees franchise record for the most runs scored in an inning is 14, a mark set in 1920.
Grisham and Judge helped propel the Yankees to a series sweep and their seventh win in a row. Judge concluded his day with 1 hit, 1 run and an rbi in 4 at bats as he continues to perform in what is yet another MVP level season. Grisham recorded 1 hit, 1 run, a stolen base, and 2 RBIs in 5 at bats as he continues to turn his season around and be a contributing factor to his team.
As MLBbro.com’s Craig Grant put it, “As the season continues, the Yankees will need Grisham to maintain the momentum he has built in May. If he can continue producing offensively while providing Gold Glove-caliber defense in center field, he could become one of the team’s most important under-the-radar contributors.”
It was a historic day for these MLB Bros.
