Chase Burns is putting the sophomore slump theory to bed as he continues to shine in his second season in the Majors.  He takes the top spot on our Week 6 #HighFive list after having the best start of his career, throwing seven scoreless innings against their divisional rivals, the Pirates.

1. Chase Burns

Chase Burns has been everything and more for the Cincinnati Reds since drafting him second overall in the 2024 Draft.

He is quickly becoming a star through his first seven starts, the most recent being the best yet as he threw seven scoreless innings, surrendering only three hits, one walk and striking out seven, the last of which came on a 101 MPH fastball.  According to MLB.com, his 89th and final pitch of the game was the fastest of his career.

Burns 2.20 ERA ranks top five in the National League while his 46 strikeouts put him in the top 10. His next start will be Saturday in Cincinnati against the Houston Astros.

2. C.J Abrams

A solid end to the month of April has rolled into a May heater for Washington Nationals shortstop C.J. Abrams. He entered Thursday with a .423 average and .500 On Base Percentage over his last seven games.

Over that span he has driven in 12 runs and homered twice, one coming during the Nationals season-high 15-run outburst against the Twins.

3. Aaron Judge

The reigning MVP and Major League Baseball’s current home run leader gets the three spot on this weeks #HighFive.

Aaron Judge has become one of the best pure hitters in the Bigs over the last few years and this week he continued to show versatility in his approach.

He has homered in three of his last four games while collecting hits in eight of his last 10.

Through the first six days of May, Judge is slashing .381/.536/.857 with eight RBI and nine runs scored to go along with those three homers.

He will lead his Yankees into Milwaukee, Wisconsin this weekend for a three-game set against the Brewers this weekend before a divisional showdown against the Orioles to begin next week.

4. Jordan “Sky” Walker

It is only right that Jordan “Sky” Walker was one of the top performers during the week of May 4th. He is an early season MVP candidate through the first six weeks of the season, slashing .303/.380/.956 with 10 homers and 27 RBI which tie for 10th in the Majors.

Walker entered Thursday hitting .385 over his last seven games with two steals and two home runs, one coming off reigning National League Cy Young award winner Paul Skenes.

5. Byron Buxton

Big Buck takes the fifth and final spot on our Week 6 #HighFive list after earning the honor of being named American League Player of the Week for the third time in his career. Buxton went on a power surge, homering five times in six games while driving in seven runs, stealing two bases and posting a .345 batting average with a 1.303 OPS.
