Vaughn Grissom is making the most out of his time with the Los Angeles Angels so far this season. The Angels acquired Grissom from the Boston Red Sox back in December of 2025. The 25-year-old is hitting .250 through six games with the Angels.

Red Sox general manager Perry Minasian is very familiar with Grissom, dating back to Grissom’s time with the Atlanta Braves.

“He’ll come in and compete,” Minasian said when they acquired Grissom. “He’s a former Top 100 prospect. I was with Atlanta when we drafted him. He’s talented and has a contact bat, which is something we’re looking for. But no promises. Just come in and compete, and we’ll see.”

Vaughn Grissom Gets Fresh Start With LA Angels

Grissom started the season on the injured list due to a sprained left wrist. Before joining the Angels, he spent some time with Triple-A Salt Lake and hit over .340 in nine rehab games.

“I was able to go play with no wrist tape, and just able to go out there and be myself, really,” Grissom said during his rehab stint.

Angels manager Kurt Suzuki was impressed with Grissom’s performance during his brief time in Triple-A, and he liked what he saw out of Grissom during Spring Training.

“We feel like he’s shown enough and was playing well down there,” Suzuki said. “He had a good Spring Training, and he’s ready to go. And we felt like he was ready to go, come help us defensively. The versatility, covering us at pretty much every infield spot — being able to have that coverage is nice and gives us some flexibility within the lineup and defensive [positioning].”

Grissom picked up his first hit as a member of the Angels on April 12, against the Cincinnati Reds. He would then follow that up with a multi-hit performance in his next game against the New York Yankees.

Vaughn Grissom Still Has Untapped Potential

The Angels have a player who can make an immediate impact on the field and at the plate in Grissom. He had an impressive rookie season with the Braves in 2022, as he hit .291 with 18 RBI and had a .440 slugging percentage through 41 games. Grissom is out of minor league options, so this could be his last chance to claim a regular job or step into a utility infielder’s role.

For his career, he’s hitting over .250 through 101 games played with 34 RBI and five home runs.

Grissom is on his third team early in his baseball career, but the Angels could be a good fit for him.

“Sometimes guys need to change the scenery,” Minasian said. “And obviously, he was a highly regarded prospect at one time. And was traded for a big-time player and all those things. Sometimes things don’t work out in one place, and there’s a better fit in another. So, we’re hoping that’s the case.”

While it’s early in the season, Grissom has the opportunity to make an impact for the Angels. It’s a new opportunity for Grissom, and he’ll look to have a positive experience with his new team.

“It’s a nice fresh start,” Grissom said. “Happy to go out there and try to help the new club win.”
