Melanated Mound Marauder Jordan Hicks is on the move. The talent-hungry Chicago White Sox acquired the flame-throwing right-hander, along with minor League hurler David Sandlin and two players to be named in a trade for fellow Minor League pitcher Gage Ziehl and a player to be named. The club announced on Sunday that Boston will send $8 million in the deal, with Hicks being owed $25 million in total over the next two seasons.

Hicks, 29, has been a pitcher who began his career as a closer in St. Louis threw over 100 mph with regularity. Over time, injuries and inconsistency has brought him to several destinations and in San Francisco he was moved to the starting rotation and performed well for a stretch, before being moved back to a relief role.

Last season, Hicks had a 6.95 ERA over 34 appearances with the Giants and Red Sox. He was a piece in the blockbuster Rafael Devers trade, working in a relief role for Boston, where he regained some of his potential dominance, after starting 29 of 42 games for the Giants since ‘24.

Hicks will get a chance to start and relieve with a Chicago White Sox team under Will Venable that lost 121 games – the most in MLB history — last season.
