Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., who has been on the Injured List since early May because of a right oblique strain, appears to be progressing quicker than expected.

On Saturday morning, Chisholm was seen doing running drills at full speed. On the same day, he said he was hitting flips in the batting cage without any problems. The oblique injury is expected to shelve Chisholm for six to eight weeks.

“I feel pretty good. We are going to be ready soon. I already did some hitting, running and throwing,” Chisholm said. “We are going to see where we are in a week. We are going to make sure we are fully ready to go before I go out there. … We are moving quicker than I thought.”

Jazz injured the oblique in the first inning on April 29th while facing Orioles right-hander Kyle Gibson. After fouling off the first pitch of the at-bat, he was seen grimacing in pain and reaching for his left side. He stayed in the game, though, and tripled to right field. After gingerly sliding into third base safely, he was taken out of the game in favor of Oswald Peraza.

Chisholm is dealing with the second oblique injury of his career. In 2023, while with the Marlins, Chisholm was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 3rd with a left oblique strain. He ended up missing 21 games and was back on the field by the end of the month. Chisholm said the injury in ‘23 felt much worse than the recent injury he currently has.
