You can never predict the career of a Major League Baseball player. Some guys will get to play the game for over ten years and won’t see the postseason, play in the World Baseball Classic, or get to participate in anything outside of the regular competitive season.
There’s another player who has not only done that but also has the rare distinction of being selected to play in three All Star futures games. Harry Ford, catcher for the Washington Nationals is that guy and he is only 23 years old. Ford has been around the game at a high level and has a clear path to be the Nationals back stop for a long time.
While Ford is still very young he has plenty of international playing experience.
“It’s cool getting to represent my country and my parent’s heritage” he told MLB Tonight before the World Baseball Classic this spring on playing for Great Britain. Ford’s parents spent significant time in both Oxford and London before moving to the Atlanta area where Harry was born. Ford homered for Great Britain in both the 2023 and 2026 World Baseball Classics.
Harry Ford Gets Two Hits, Two Walks Against LA Dodgers
Ford made his Nationals debut on July 17, 2026 against the Oakland Athletics. He launched his first career Major League bro bomb—a two-run blast—and driving in three runs. In 80 at-bats this season, across 28 games, Ford has three homers, two steals, 13 walks and a OPS of .707. There’s plenty of room for improvement and Ford showed what he’s capable of with the bat on Sunday night he had a double, two walks and two RBI in a 7-5 loss to the LA Dodgers. It was Ford’s third multi-hit game this season. He also got two hits against the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 12.
Washington Nationals Catcher Harry Ford Was First Round Draft Pick In 2021
Ford was the first round selection of the Seattle Mariners in the 2021 draft (12th overall) and progressed through the system. The Mariners didn’t rush him as some teams do with their high draft picks. The development was there even if it didn’t show immediately in the offensive numbers. His batting average decreased a bit as he moved up levels but he showed improvement of being an every day catcher at every stop. Working with pitching staffs, handling balls in the dirt, and limiting passed balls is very important in getting ready for the big leagues.
The Atlanta area has been producing MLBbro’s on a consistent basis and Ford a Kennesaw, Georgia native is no exception. Considered a rising star he participated in the Futures game in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons representing the American League. 2025 turned into an amazing year for Ford as he played in a yet another futures game. His defense was on full display in that contest as he threw out Konnor Griffin trying to steal second base. Offensively he had his best year with a .283 batting average at Triple A Tacoma and career highs of 16 bro bombs and 83 Runs Batted In.
Harry Ford Gets First Taste Of Bigs, Then Traded To Nationals
His performance was good enough to promote him to the Major Leagues in September and he not only collected a base hit during September but also had a hit in October during the Mariners post season run that ended in the American League Championship Series.
Being a first round selection has value and the Seattle Mariners clearly saw that. Cal Raleigh is the catcher for that team for the foreseeable future and it would have been tough for Ford to get regular playing time as he tries to establish himself in the big leagues. He was traded to the Nationals organization in December and made his way to Washington in July. Ford’s average isn’t where it needs to be yet but as the final three weeks of the season are upon us he will definitely be given the opportunity to show why he should be behind the plate in 2027.
