The Los Angeles Angels have not had a winning record to finish a season since the 2015 campaign. Major League Baseball in Orange County has definitely taken a backseat to the Los Angeles Dodgers in recent years but the players know they have to perform day in and day out. One young player who is trying to carve out a niche for himself is Christian Moore.
Chritian Moore Gets Called Back Up To Majors: Brooklyn-Born Talent
“Obviously this time I want to stay and help these guys win and finish the season strong” Moore told a pool of reporters about his call up from Triple A on August 22nd.
The 23 year old was hitting .302 at the time of his promotion and will get more big league playing time in September than he did when he was brought up for ten days in June. He brings versatility to the Angels in that he has proven he can play both second base and left field.
Outside of Shawon Dunston (drafted first overall in the 1982 Baseball draft), Moore is believed to be the only other Brooklyn, NY born MLBbro selected in the first round (2024). Before he achieved that status he found his way to the University of Tennessee.
“Tony V was recruiting me and it was one of those things that when I first got to campus I knew I liked the city of Knoxville but I didn’t understand how they were baseball wise, but I loved the city and I wanted to be there” he told MLBbro during spring training about how Tony Vitello who was the head coach of the Volunteers at the time got him to play there.
Vitiello is now the manager of the San Francisco Giants. Moore is definitely proud of his roots but realizes playing baseball outside of the northeast made him a better ballplayer.
“I definitely took advantage of it in college and saw a big jump in my production” he spoke of the resources available to him at a large baseball program. Moore is the all time homerun leader for the University of Tennessee with 61 in his three seasons there.
Moore has been on the fast track having been on the winning team in the 2024 College World Series and making his Major League debut less than a year later.
“It’s been fun, it’s been quick and I know there is a plan for me” he explained.
He’s already has some huge MLB moments.
Cam Smith the right fielder for the Houston Astros is another MLBbro who is on a similar path as Moore. Smith played in that 2024 College World Series, was drafted six spots behind Moore, and made his debut in 2025 as well. Both teams have different trajectories this season. Smith is on a team that is battling for a division title and Moore is on a squad that will not see .500 this year. The focus here is Moore. He has yet to commit an error at second base this season but the Angels would like to see a bit more pop in his bat at this level. He has another month left in this campaign to make an impact and carry momentum into 2027.
