Centerfield is one of the most demanding positions on the baseball field as we have seen MLBbro greats such as Willie Mays and Ken Griffey Jr make some amazing plays over the years. More recently Andruw Jones manned the position for the Atlanta Braves winning ten Gold Glove awards in his career. The player who represents not only the future but is very much the present Centerfielder for that team is Michael Harris.  The 25-year-old has been a model of consistency in playing in each of the Braves first 14 games this season, and he missed just two contests in 2025.

Michael Harris Jr. Has Become A Staple In Centerfield For Atlanta Braves

Harris is a guy that has to be ready at all times. He has to make be in sync with both the Leftfielder and the Rightfielder on every ball hit. If it’s hit in the gap, which player is going to the wall to start a potential relay throw? How about a flyball that hangs in the air for awhile? Is Harris going to make the catch or let his teammate make the grab? These are decisions that an outstanding Centerfielder has to make in addition to just the skill of a potential diving catch or an over the shoulder grab. His mental focus mixed with the physical ability that he possesses is why Harris is considered a clubhouse leader.

Michael Harris Has Not Peaked Yet

Harris has been consistent at every level. During his first year of professional baseball in 2019 he split time in both Center and Right but after Covid wiped out the 2020 season the Braves organization realized he was best suited for Centerfield. In 2021 he hit .294 in A ball and while playing for the Double A affiliate in the Southern League in 2022 his .305 batting average was reason enough to be called up to the Major Leagues as he bypassed Triple A.  This might have been one of the best moves an organization has ever made because Harris won the National League Rookie of the Month award three times that season enroute to winning Rookie of the Year by hitting 19 bro bombs and finishing with a .297 batting average.

As a native of the Atlanta area there is a sense of pride every time he puts on the Braves uniform. He understands the history of the organization and the expectations that come with it. Playing in front of family, friends, and a fan base that has truly watched him grow up creates a sense of accountability that will last for years. If past history is any indication of the future Harris will continue to take the run out to Centerfield every day regardless of what stadium Atlanta is playing in that day and his numbers will rise. Right now there is only one thing that can keep Harris out of the lineup and that is family. He and his wife have welcomed a new baby to the family and he currently on the paternity list.
