The state of California has produced more Major League Baseball players than any other and Tyrone Taylor of the New York Mets is certainly part of that production.

Tyrone Taylor Started In Milwaukee Brewers Organization

Taylor was a second round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2012 draft and was consistently challenged in the minor leagues. He spent parts of four seasons (2014-2017) playing at the Double A level in the Milwaukee organization before coming up with a .278 batting average, 20 homers and 80 RBI in 2018 in Triple A.

This set the stage for him to make his Major League debut in 2019 and become part of the Brewers outfield for the next five seasons. David Stearns who is the President of Baseball Operations for the New York Mets saw Taylor everyday and liked what he saw when he was an executive with the Brewers.

When he got his role with the Mets at the end of the 2023 season he traded for the very versatile outfielder with a plan of him seeing him earn regular playing time.

“I’m having a lot of fun, we have a great group of guys here” Taylor told MLBbro.com about being part of a team that has one of the best records in baseball. “I’m just out here playing ball and I’m thankful” he expanded on being a Met this season. Taylor has played all three outfield positions this year but his primary position is Centerfield. “The guys here make it easy; we do a good job of communicating” Taylor said. “Whether it’s Nimmo or Soto, we talk” he explained his fielding relationship in the middle of the two corner outfielders.

Tyrone Taylor Finds A Home In NY

This is the seventh major league season for Taylor but just his second in New York. While the game is the same, there are differences in the city and organization.

“I feel like Milwaukee is a smaller market, when I got to New York the number of resources were different” he shared his initial thoughts on his second big league home city. “The way the front office and staff go about it is different”

Taylor spoke about the organizations he has played for. Team success has been common for both of these organizations as Taylor has appeared in a total of 19 playoff games since 2020.

“You can feel the difference in the energy of the crowd during the playoffs” the 31-year-old said, describing the difference of playing in the post season as opposed to the regular season.

“I try to treat every game as if it’s a playoff game, that helps me mentally” he said about his consistent approach to the game.

Baseball has plenty of oddities and scheduling is a big part of that. In his first season as a Met, Taylor found himself facing his former Brewer teammates early and often.

“That was a trip for me, I’m not gonna lie” he said. Taylor faced Milwaukee on opening day of the 2024 season as well as in the NLWC.

“Milwaukee was all I knew before I came here. I know all the guys over there. The coaching staff and the players” he told MLBbro.com.

One of his favorite baseball memories came in the minor leagues on April 29, 2014 when he pulled off a rarity by hitting for the cycle on his Mom’s birthday.

“That’s a throwback for sure I remember that.” he recalled the joyous moment. “She always says I play well on her birthday” he smiled. For good measure Taylor had two hits against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 29, 2025.
