Spring training is always a special time of year for baseball fans, and this is the second season for Spring Breakout games. These are annual games that are played between rising stars and prospects. For the San Francisco Giants, Saturday was their first Spring Breakout game, as last year’s contest fell victim to the rain.
Bo Davidson Is A San Francisco Giants Prospect Moving Up The Ranks
Centerfielder Bo Davidson led off the game for the Giants. “It’s a blessing, coming from where I come from, you don’t think you’d be here” the 22-year-old told MLBbro.com.
Davidson spent a couple of years playing at the junior college ranks at Caldwell CC in North Carolina and even took a season off between the two. He really didn’t miss a beat as he hit .286 in his first pro season after signing as a non-drafted free agent and followed that up with a terrific second season.
While playing for San Jose (Low A Ball level, Giants) he was named California League Player of the week not once but twice. He connected for three grand slams in 2024, no one in the minor leagues had more.
Davidson explained his transition from college baseball to the professional ranks. In two seasons of minor league baseball, he has a career batting average of .320.
“The game is the same, you just go out there and compete,” he told MLBbro.com
Bo Davidson Stands Out In MLB Spring Breakout
Spring Breakout games are very similar to Arizona Fall League competition. Virtually all of the participants are highly regarded by their respective organizations. The showcase ran from March 13-16th.
Davidson put his talents on display going 2-for-4 but understanding there’s still much to learn if he wants to crack the big league roster.
“Slowing the game down. Don’t get too anxious, don’t get too fast. Just be patient.” That’s what the Giants would like Davidson to do as he moves up the ladder.
Davidson Stepped Away From The Game For A Season In College
Davidson didn’t share too many details on his year away from the game while he was in college but is certainly happy to be back playing on the diamond.
“My best friend, and something inside of me told me to go back and try it again,” said Davidson when explaining his reasoning for returning to play baseball.”
North Carolina Kid Spending Time Out West
Baseball will move you all over the country and in the case of Davidson it has made him spend a lot of time in the western part of the United States.
“It’s different. Sunny for the most part. It’s warm. It’s a great time out here. Just focused on baseball” he talked about playing in Arizona and California since becoming a professional.
Bo Davidson Says He’s Been Compared To Ken Griffey Jr. & Barry Bonds
He didn’t necessarily admire any ballplayer growing up, he always wanted to just be a better version of himself. “I got the comp a lot of Griffey and Bonds, so I guess you could say Griffey” he said of the players he was fond of and compared too growing up.
Some projections don’t have Davidson reaching the major leagues until 2027. Hopefully its before then and with a strong first half of the season perhaps we see him in Double A Richmond before the end of the 2025 season.
