Lawrence Butler was a sixth-round pick of the Athletics back in 2018 and has been on an upward trajectory ever since. Two years were spent in the lower levels of the minor leagues and with Covid knocking out everyone’s 2020 season, Butler didn’t really get into a flow until 2021.

Now entering his third big league season, the 24-year-old is in a groove. “I’m feeling pretty good at the plate; a lot of the guys are swinging it on the team” Butler said as he has now gotten hits in his first five spring training games this year.

Butler took full advantage of his playing time in 2024 as he launched 22 homeruns. Power is certainly something that is attractive, but the right fielder also has speed. Butler had 18 stolen bases last season in as many attempts.
“I really just try to take after my guy Zack Gelof. He loves to run, and he has encouraged me to do that, I take after him on the stolen base side” he said.
Versatility is something that can keep you in the game of baseball for a long time. While it’s fair to say that Butler won’t be classified as a utility man he has played a variety of positions during his career.

“I’ve pretty much played every position my whole life. I know where everyone is supposed to be on the field at all times” Butler spoke on having played four different positions in the organization. “It’s really getting used to the different angles that right field has” he added.

Butler is from Atlanta, Georgia so it was no surprise when he revealed his favorite teams. “I love the Falcons and the Hawks. I love going to the Falcons games and I went to a lot of Hawks games this year, I got to see LeBron play” in the offseason. “I played football and basketball, so I love seeing the highest level compete.”
What Player Did He Look Up Too Growing Up?
“I didn’t watch to much big league baseball at a young age. When I did it was the Braves and Andruw Jones was out there making crazy plays in the outfield.” he mentioned. Butler certainly is a very mellow individual and quite relaxed.
When the 23-year-old isn’t emerging as one of the young superstars of the game, “I be chilling. I like to just hang out with my bros,” he told MLBbro.com. “Go grab some food, so we be vibing and chilling.”
