Major League Baseball has released the early results of the 2024 MLB All-Star Ballot, and the numbers have not been kind to the MLBbros.
With 10 days remaining in Phase 1 of fan voting, only five have registered enough votes to be eligible for a starting spot in the summer classic.
The top two vote getters in each league will automatically be named starters for the All-Star Game, which is scheduled to take place July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. All-star festivities have been huge in showcasing the game’s biggest stars, and more often than not, the bros have shown up and put on a show.
Let’s take a look at the five MLBbros who currently have a shot at making the roster.
Aaron Judge, Yankees: 1,366,315 votes
If you’re already creating your dream batting lineup for the 2024 All-Star Game, you can go ahead and write the Yankees captain at the top in red ink. After another spectacular start, Judge is the leading vote-getter in all of baseball and is a lock to make the roster.
Aaron continues to break every stat cast projection model aimed at quantifying his greatness and looks poised to lead New York on a deep playoff run. Perhaps Judge will give the fans what they really want next; an appearance in the Home Run Derby against fellow Big Apple slugger Pete Alonzo.
Mookie Betts, Dodgers: 1,023,690 votes
Mookie’s situation took a turn for the worse recently when the Dodgers announced he would be out for several weeks with a fractured hand. The injury is unfortunate for all parties involved, but especially Betts, who had made the transition to shortstop full time in order to help his ball club. Now on the mend, Mookie will most likely spend the All-Star Break as an ambassador for the game and nothing more.
Marcus Semien, Rangers: 539,223 votes
Semien is currently second amongst AL second basemen in voting, and if he is able to take the lead would be headed to his second consecutive ASG start. With the game taking place in his home ballpark, look for a late push from Rangers fans to get their guy over the top.
Giancarlo Stanton, Yankees: 408,610 votes
One of the most prolific power hitters of his era and the King of Exit Velocity, Giancarlo Stanton has been an important piece of the Yankees offense this season. Most importantly, Stanton has been able to avoid missing major time for the Bronx Bombers. If selected, could we see Stanton attempt to capture his first Home Run Derby crown since 2016?
Josh Naylor, Guardians: 404,389 votes
Josh continues to set the tone for the Guardians in the heart of that lineup, and now Naylor’s breakout season may be rewarded with his first trip to the summer classic. Josh has 17 Homers and 50 RBI for Cleveland and is on pace for career highs in both categories.
