The Chicago Cubs welcomed the New York Mets to Wrigley Field to begin a three game set yesterday, with the Cubs taking the first game of the series, winning 7-2. However, the second game of the series is what we at MLBbro will be locked into, as our Melanated Mound Marauder, Marcus Stroman will face off against his former squad from Queens.
Stroman, a Medford, Long Island native pitched 44 games in two seasons with his hometown team, compiling a 14-15 record, and a 3.39 ERA. On a staff that included two-time NL Cy Young Award winner, Jacob deGrom and fellow MLBbro Taijuan Walker, Stro threw like the Ace of at times for the Mets, leading the league in starts in his 2021, while providing his usual Gold Glove caliber defense. Despite his efforts on the field, he was not rewarded by the front office with a new contract.
This decision may have caused some tension- maybe a jab or two on social media at the time -but trust and believe our bro is at peace in the Windy City, it’s also showing through his performance on the field since joining the Cubs.
Stro has gotten off to a solid start to the season, pitching to the tune of a 3.04 ERA and 3-4 record. However, when you look deeper, you’ll see that he has pitched even better than the numbers indicate, being a model of consistency when he steps on the mound.
In his ten outings, Stro has eight quality starts, which is tied for first in MLB, while allowing no more than two runs.
Stroman Has Pitched Against Mets Before
Tonight’s matchup will be Stro’s third career matchup vs the Mets. His first start against his old ballclub came last season, as he allowed only one hit and struck out six in 4.1 innings pitched. The Mets would go on to win that game 2-1.
The Mets have been playing better baseball recently, coming into today’s game winning 6 of their last 10, but have struggled to get consistent hitting and pitching to start the season. Could this be great timing for a Stroman revenge game? Check out the Stro Show tonight and let’s find out!
