Greene Machine Hunts First Win Against Record-Breaking Tampa Rays

After three starts, Hunter Greene is still in search of his first victory. The 23-year-old Greene Machine has collected three no decisions, and some may wonder when the first win of the season will come. He’s already for plenty off the field. 

 

No need to worry, Greene will get his first win soon and more will come as the season progresses.

 

In his rookie season, the MLBbro Rookie Pitcher of the Year made 24 starts and finished the season with a 5-13 record, 4.44 ERA and 164 strikeouts.

 

 

He got off to a rough start his rookie year, but showed improvement during the season.

 

There’s no question that Greene is one of the hardest throwing hurlers in the game. And he has a promising future ahead of him.

 

While the numbers may not show, Greene still is a productive pitcher, who can dominate out there on the mound.

 

On the season, he has a 5.14 ERA through 14 innings of work with 23 strikeouts.

 

And let’s not forget the fact that he’s young and his arm is golden. He’s going to be in the league for a long time and he will continue to develop his game as his career progresses.

 

 

 

Though the season is still early, Greene’s next start will be his biggest test of the season.

 

He will go up against the Tampa Bay Rays, the hottest team in baseball. These are the moments that Greene lives for and he will certainly bring his A-game.

 

Can Greene dominate against the best team in baseball?

 

Tampa Bay has the best record in the league and have been must-see TV since the season started.

 

We have seen Green have dominant outings in his young career. The question is can he do it against the Rays?

Through 16 games, the Rays are one of the top hitting teams in the league,  batting  over .280.

 

Bottom line is this team knows how to hit and for Greene to be successful against the Rays, he’ll need to be effective not only with his fastball, but off speed too.

 

Greene is going to get his strikeouts, there’s no question about that. In his previous start against the defending champion Atlanta Braves, he struck out a season high 10 batters in six innings of work.

 

“It was great,” Greene told mlb.com. “I’ve been working really hard on the days in between, and I feel like it came through today. So I’m very happy.”

 

In his start against the Braves, Atlanta put some good swings on the ball and that’s a big reason why they were able to secure the win.

 

And Greene did his part during that game, Atlanta just came ready to swing the bat.

 

“That’s also good hitting,” said manager David Bell. “I don’t want to take anything away from those kind of hits because they’re doing their job too against really good pitches. It could’ve gone even better for Hunter if he would’ve caught a break there. He was making the pitches, they made the swings.”

 

If Greene can have a similar outing against the Rays, he can definitely put himself in a position to pick up his first win of the season. And he’ll certainly need some help from his offense as well
