Top Black Prospects Entering 2022 MLB Draft | Future MLBbros Coming With That Soul Glo

The 2022 MLB draft is just around the corner, and there are plenty of young Black players for you to look out for. According to MLB.com, these five players are are almost a lock to have their names called in the first round. 

1. Elijah Green – OF – 6’3”/225, IMG Academy 

Listed at 6’3” and 225 pounds, Elijah Green could have followed in his NFL dad Eric Green’s footsteps, but fortunately he chose the baseball diamond instead. 

 

 

You usually don’t see a player of Green’s stature move the way he does, but his 70-run grade tells you everything you need to know. Green uses his frame to cover an elite amount of ground out in center, and with a plus arm rating and power potential, Elijah will be off the board quickly. 

2. Termarr Johnson – 2B – 5’10”/175, Mays (GA)

Johnson is currently listed as the 4th best prospect, but the hype surrounding his bat may lead to Termarr being selected with the first overall pick in the draft. Labeled by some as the best prep hitter in decades, Johnson has turned heads at the plate. 

 

His hit tool was graded at a 70 on the 20-80 scale, while his power was given a 60. He’s committed to Arizona State, but the hype surrounding Termarr may be too much to ever step foot on a college campus. 

3. Cam Collier – 3B – 6’2”/210, Chipola Junior College

The son of former major leaguer Lou Collier, Cam is a prospect who is looking to make the show sooner than later. Originally classified as a 2023 draft prospect, Collier decided to get his GED and enroll at Chipola Junior College to prepare for this year’s draft. 

 

 

Collier’s highest grades on the scouting scale are in the hitting and arm tools, in which he received a 60. He’s projected as a third baseman, but his power bat is what teams have been enamored with. 

4. Justin Crawford – OF – 6’ 3”/175, Bishop Gorman (NV)

Our next prospect is another MLB baby. The son of former All-Star outfielder Carl Crawford.  Justin is without question one of the best athletes in this draft class, possessing elite level speed which could make him a force on the base paths and in the outfield.

He is currently listed at 175 pounds, but most scouts believe that he will continue to fill out his frame and become a serious threat in the box from the left side of the plate. 

5. Kumar Rocker – P – 6’5”/245, No School

Kumar Rocker is probably the most intriguing prospect in this entire class. The 10th overall pick by the Mets in last year’s draft, New York decided against signing Rocker due to concerns about his pitching arm. 

 

 

After a minor scope of his arm and an impressive stint with the Tri-City ValleyCats of the independent Frontier League, Kumar is once again high on several teams’ draft boards. HIs agent Scott Boras has assured teams that his client is healthy and ready to become the next great Black Ace.
