NEW YORK – It’s Spring Training in February.

Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is confident in his abilities on the baseball field. In fact, he predicted that 2026 would be his best season to date. He went so far as to say that he has the potential to hit 50 homers and steal 50 bases.

That’s not happening – not this year, anyway.

At least Chisholm is honest about the year he is having. He will be the first to tell you that he “sucks” in ‘26. He feels no explanation is required. His stats tell the story.

Entering Sunday’s action against the Dodgers, Chisholm had a slash line of .223/.302/.393 with 13 home runs, 26 steals and 107 strikeouts.

He did hit the decisive homer — his 14th— in a 2-1 win in the second game of a double header against the LA Dodgers on Sunday.

“I sucked all season,” Chisholm acknowledged. “I just feel like sometimes when things are going well, and I’m feeling good at the plate and don’t have the luck I have, I try to switch things up. That makes it even worse. That’s why I’m having the up-and-down season right now. I just got to stick with it even when I’m lining out. I just have to stay with it – not try to change anything.”

Jazz Chisholm Comes Up Big

In game 2 of the doubleheader on Sunday night, Chisholm didn’t suck. His home run in the bottom of the eighth inning helped New York edge Los Angeles, 2-1.

With the score tied at one each and Dodgers right-hander Evans Phillips on the mound, Chisholm entered the batter’s box with one out. On a 1-0 fastball, down and away, Chisholm did something rare. He went oppo.

An opposite-field home run over the left-field wall. It was his second such homer that went a different direction. It was also his third homer in the eighth inning or later to give his team the lead.

“I was trying to get on base, help the team, try not to be too pull happy and get a pitch I can handle,” Chisholm said. “Left field is kind of big. I was just hoping [left fielder Teoscar Hernández] didn’t get a read on it and it got over his head. Then I saw him turn his back and then I knew it was gone.”

The Dodgers ended up winning the three-game series, 2-1. How do the Yankees match up against a team that has the best record in baseball?

“I feel we match up against any team in any league. We beat ourselves a lot, and we have stuff we need to clean up,” Chisholm said.
