PHILADELPHIA – One thing can be said about Giants outfielder Dakota Jordan: the dude is confident in his abilities on the baseball field and it showed – at least in the batter’s box – Sunday afternoon at the All-Star Futures Game presented by Nike.

His only at-bat came in the bottom of the fifth inning, when he swung at a 1-1 sweeper from Mariners right-hander Ryan Sloan and doubled down the left-field line with two outs. The National League would go on to lose to the American League, 6-1, but Jordan was happy that he showed the fans at Citizens Bank Park that he could swing the stick.

After the game, Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. approached Jordan and complimented him on his approach at the plate. Jordan’s legs almost turned to jelly after hearing from “The Kid.”

“Mindblowing,” Jordan said. “I can’t even explain it in words, but when you say it to my face, it’s pretty special.”

Said Griffey, “He pretty put together. I watched him over the last couple of years. He has what it takes. It’s just a matter of him getting an opportunity. Hopefully, within the next year, we’ll get to see him in the big leagues.”

Jordan, the fifth best prospect in the Giants organization according to MLB Pipeline, has been special in the batter’s box in 2026. Entering the second half of the season, Jordan had a slash line of .290/.346/.533 with 18 homers and 66 RBIs. He said there is more in the tank. His best game came on July 10 – the last day of the first half – when he clubbed three homers against Spokane. He said never had an experience like that.

“That was my first three-homer game. I went in not knowing that I had that in me. That’s not normal,” he said.

After that game, in fact, Jordan was informed that he will play for Double A Richmond after the All-Star break.

“After the three-homer game, it was a great sendoff, for sure,” he said.

Jordan already has his eyes set on the big leagues and he wants it to happen this year.

“I will do anything just to help … the team win,” he said. “I’m a team guy first. I tell the coaches, whomever I’m with, at the end of the day, I want to win. That’s the biggest thing. That’s all I want to do.”

Jordan’s confidence comes from the two most important people in his life: His mother, Carolyn, and former Major Leaguer Will Clark, who is in the Giants’ Walk of Fame.

Jordan said Clark is a guy he leans on. It helps that they attended the same alma mater – Mississippi State. Jordan went so far as to say that “Will The Thrill” keeps him grounded.

“He brings that dog mentality. That’s all I need,” Jordan said about Clark. “He told me to stay humble. Just keep swinging.”

Carolyn gave Jordan two words that he holds dear to his heart: “Be you.” Dakota has those words stitched on all of his gloves.

“She has always been there for me, for 1. She always tells me to be myself. I take that with me. She keeps me humble every day just like Will Clark does. She’s been there every step of the way.”

Jordan is humble, confident and is getting close to being “The Show.”
