It’s one thing to get an opportunity; it’s another thing to get that opportunity then capitalize in spectacular fashion. MLBbro Charles McAdoo did exactly that in his MLB debut with the Toronto Blue Jays on May 29.

All Songs Start Off with Silence…

McAdoo’s debut on a Friday evening in Baltimore was very reminiscent of his journey; a slow build to success. He played three seasons at San Diego State in college where his freshman season was “quiet,” similar to his first career at bat against opposing pitcher Trevor Rogers. Rogers didn’t play with the rookie with a runner on third base.

McAdoo saw nothing but 93 mph fastballs in his welcome to the majors moment, swinging and missing at the first two, fouling off the third, then watching the fourth for his first MLB strikeout. Like I said…quiet.

Turn The Notch Up Just a Bit….

Back at San Diego State McAdoo broke out as a sophomore. He found his swing and set a school record with a 44-game on-base streak helping the team capture a 2023 Mountain West Championship. During his 3 seasons, McAdoo slashed .325/.396/.572 with 165 hits and 24 home runs. There was growth every season in college like there was in his second at-bat in his MLB debut. McAdoo learned from his quiet first at-bat. Rogers tried the fastball again, but this time McAdoo connected immediately but the ball was caught in foul territory. Almost there…

McAdoo was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 13th round of the 2023 draft but was traded to the Blue Jays in exchange for Isiah Kiner-Falefa in 2024. He spent 2024 and 2025 in the minors developing into a managers dream, a swiss army knife like defender you can play anywhere you need. He struggled with the Blue Jays AA Affiliate, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats where he batted only .193 at the plate, but blossomed the next season leading him to AAA in 2026 where he batted .250 with 8 home runs in 50 games before his call up.

Sounds At The Plate Sound Like King-Kong In The Trunk…

The kid born on March 6, 2002, in Walnut Creek, California had been slow building to this moment. Rogers realized the rook had caught on to his fast ball and tried to fool him again with a change up on the first pitch. Instead of the early aggression that cost him in the first two at-bats, McAdoo was patient and took it for a strike. Rogers tried the same trick again in the next pitch, once again McAdoo showed patience and took it for a 1-1 count. Rogers threw his third pitch and there it was. The culmination of everything McAdoo has overcome. The record-breaking sophomore season at San Diego State. The instant raise in batting average after his first season in Blue Jays Development.

Rogers threw a fastball, and McAdoo crushed it into the bleachers for his first Major League Home Run. Once again, making history becoming only the 6th Blue Jay to ever homer in his debut.

If the Blue Jays are patient with young MLBbro Charles McAdoo, they would need to look no further than his debut performance and his journey to get there as a blueprint for the talent they have. Quiet at first… but with patience and a little bit of opportunity, sky is the limit on how far the notch will be turned up in his production.
