NEW YORK – It was not a good day for MLBbros Jazz Chisholm and Giancarlo Stanton as the Yankees lost to the Red Sox, 3-1, in Game 1 of American League Wild Card Series on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. Surprisingly, Chisholm sat out to start the game, while Stanton left seven runners on base.

Boone Benches Jazz Chisholm Jr For Game 1

Chisholm learned via text from manager Aaron Boone that he was going to sit out against Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet and let Amed Rosario get the start at second base. The move was a head scratcher because Chisholm isn’t a pushover against lefties. In fact, he is hitting .248 with six home runs and 19 RBIs against southpaws this season. Against right-handers, Chisholm’s batting average is eight points lower.

Chisholm eventually entered the game in the top of the eighth as a defensive placement for Rosario. Chisholm would eventually get an at-bat in the ninth inning against Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman and flew out to right fielder Wilyer Abreu.

Chisholm was politically correct when talking about the benching, but his back faced the media the entire time as he was looking through his clothing. His voice wasn’t lively like it usually is – win or lose.

Jazz Chisholm Wasn’t Happy With Wild Card Game 1 Snub

When asked if he agreed with the decision not to start the game, Chisholm hesitated for 10 seconds and said, “I agree that we can do whatever we can do to win. … That’s how I look at it.”

Stanton is usually at his best when the leaves turn brown during the postseason. Remember, he was the American League Championship Series MVP last year for having a series-leading four home runs and seven RBIs.

However, Stanton had a day to forget in the batter’s box. In the first inning against Crochet, the Yankees had a chance to take at least a 1-0 lead. With runners on first and second and one out, Stanton hit into a double play to end the threat.

Playoff Stanton Went MIA

In the ninth, with New York down by two runs, the bases were loaded with no outs when Stanton entered the batter’s box against Chapman. Stanton wasn’t in there for long; He struck out on four pitches. Stanton ended up going hitless in seven at-bats.

“G [Stanton] didn’t get any results tonight, but I thought he had a lot of good swings and a lot of just misses [in those swings]. They got us tonight,” Boone said.
