NEW YORK – Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge are ready for October. On Friday night at Yankee Stadium, as Stanton homered twice and Judge once, they gave fans a sneak peek of what’s to come when the leaves turn brown.

It was the Judge Stanton show which has been often repeated ever since Stanton joined the Bronx Bombers in 2018. The Yankee sluggers drove in a combined seven runs in an 8-4 victory over the Orioles

Entering the game, left-hander Trevor Rogers was almost invincible, sporting a 1.35 ERA in 17 starts. But Stanton showed Rogers that he was hittable by clubbing a two-run homer in the first inning to take a two-run lead.

Two innings later with the Orioles ahead, 3-2, the Bronx Bombers re-took the lead by adding four more runs against Rogers to go ahead for good. With José Caballero on first and one out, Aaron Judge swung at a 1-2 pitch and hit the ball into Monument Park in left center field to give New York a one-run lead.

“They had really good at-bats against [Rogers]. He has had an amazing year and run,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the game. “They probably benefited from seeing him last week. Guys were able to process some things last week. They went out and executed a really nice game plan and the two big boys [Stanton and Judge] really leaned on a couple of [pitches].”

It marked the 58th time Judge and Stanton hit a home run in the same game. The team is 51-7 in those games.

“It’s a lot of fun [when we hit home runs in the same game],” Stanton said. “I understand the record is in our favor when that happens, too. Anything to help us get a boost, it’s good.”

Two batters later, with Cody Bellinger on base, Stanton hit another two-run bomb to make it a 6-4 game. The ball had an exit velocity of 112.2 miles per hour and traveled 454 feet into the standing room only section in left center field.

Austin Wells was the only person not named Judge or Stanton that drove in a run and that came in the sixth when he singled off right-hander Yennier Cano to send Trent Grisham home.

Stanton drove in his last run of the game in the seventh frame when he grounded out with the bases loaded against José Castillo, but Paul Goldschmidt scored on the play.

The Yankees find themselves tied for first place with the Blue Jays in the American League East race with two games to play. The Blue Jays defeated the Rays, 4-2, at the Rogers Centre on the same day.

What do the Yankees need to do to win their second straight division title?

“Win everyday,” Stanton said. “Keep it simple. Don’t try to do too much, really… One pitch, one out at a time and just execute.”
