Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, helped lead his team to a much needed victory on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The win snapped a six-game losing skid and avoided a series sweep from the top team in the American League.

Detroit came alive offensively, putting up 10 runs in the victory and Flaherty threw a gem, going six innings without allowing a run.

Jack Flaherty Bounces Back

Toronto put up six or more runs each game during the series except the final game, where they scored four.

Flaherty finished with seven strikeouts and one walk. He was determined to bounce back and have a strong performance after his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates where he only went three innings, surrendering three runs while walking three and striking out six.

His last win came on June 8 against the Chicago Cubs. After Sunday’s win, Flaherty’s record improved to 6-10 on the season and he lowered his ERA to 4.51.

Though his 10 losses have set a career-high, Flaherty has made a significant impact this season for Detroit.

This season, Flaherty has been impressive in the strikeout category. Through 21 starts, he’s at 137 and he finished with 194 last season.

This month, he made five starts and in each start he recorded six or more strikeouts. Flaherty has been a key part to the Tigers starting rotation this season.

And his performance on Sunday shows why he still has what it takes to dominate out there on the mound.

Though Detroit has struggled lately, the team still leads the American League Central Division and has a strong chance of making the postseason.

All Eyes On Jack Flaherty & Detroit Pitching

All eyes will be on Detroit’s pitching these last two months of the regular season. And Flaherty will have the opportunity to display his veteran leadership both on and off the field.

The Tigers are benefitting from having a player like Flaherty on the team. You have a player with a lot of experience and has been a part of a World Series winning team just last year.

You better believe that Flaherty will be one player in the clubhouse motivating the team and reinforcing that positive energy they need to end the season on a strong note.

And let’s not forget, before Flaherty joined the Dodgers last season, he was having an impressive season with the Tigers. Now that he’s back in Motown, he wants to taste the postseason magic and experience it in Detroit.

Flaherty has an opportunity to appear in his third consecutive postseason with three different teams.

Going into August, Flaherty will look to build from his start on Sunday and look to keep his team in games when he steps on that mound.

If the Tigers want a shot at making a World Series appearance, Flaherty is one player who will need to continue to provide value on the field and keep opposing teams from putting runs up on the scoreboard.
