Joseph Deng was born in a refugee camp in Kenya after his mother left South Sudan to escape war. The 17-year-old was signed by the Dodgers in January.
The 6-foot-7 fireballer is the second player to be signed from Africa this year, joining infielder Armstrong Muhoozi from Uganda, who signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
