MLB Launches 2022 HBCU ‘PLAY BALL’ SERIES With Event At Stillman College & Claflin University

Free Program to Be Open to Local Kids in Both Communities Prior to Schools Game.

No Experience Necessary as Kids Will Have Chance To Participate in Introductory, Fun-Focused Activities Highlighting the Ways Baseball & Softball Can Be Played

Youth from communities in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Orangeburg, South Carolina will have the opportunity to participate in the launch events for Major League Baseball’s “HBCU ‘PLAY BALL’ Series” this month.  Free events prior to college games at Claflin University will be held on Saturday, March 26^th (Orangeburg), featuring fun-focused activities for the kids – ages 5 to 12.

These introductory activities are designed to demonstrate the many varieties of ways baseball and softball can be played in almost any setting.

This specific effort is a continuation of MLB’s efforts related to both supporting HBCU baseball & softball programs and engagement with the Black community through PLAY BALL. In February, MLB hosted its annual Andre Dawson Classic at the MLB Youth Academy in New Orleans, La., which itself is the home field for HBCU baseball and softball through Xavier University in NOLA. Over the last year-plus, MLB has held PLAY BALL events throughout the country with Black Churches in various communities.

The first event was held on March 19th as youth from communities in Tuscaloosa, Alabama participated in the launch event at Stillman College.
