Marcus Semien Is A Finalist For MVP…Again | Is The Third Time A Charm For Underrated MLBbro?

MLBbro Marcus Semien was named one of three finalists for the American League MVP Award. He faces tough competition against his teammate, half a billion-dollar double play partner Corey Seager and the “Unicorn” that is Shohei Ohtani, but do not count Major League Baseball’s modern day “Iron Man” out.

Semien accomplished more in his 2023 campaign than most players do in a major league career. He will forever be known as a World Series Champion after leading the Rangers to their first title in franchise history.

Manager Bruce Bochy was able to pencil Semien’s name into the leadoff spot in every one of the teams 179 games and you can make that number 180 if you add this year’s All-Star Game where Dusty Baker batted him first for the American League.

No player in Major League history has ever batted more than the 788 times before Semien did this season while leading the American League in hits and runs scored, while also being one of five leadoff hitters to ever reach 100 RBI in a season.

Marcus Semien MVP Finalist For The Third Time

This is the third time he has been a finalist for the Most Valuable Player award in his career; the first was in 2019 where with the Oakland A’s he played all 162 games with 33 home runs, 92 RBI and a .285 batting average and the other in 2021 when he hit a record 45 home runs in his first full season as a second baseman.

He ultimately finished third on both occasions.

The value Semien had for the World Champions cannot be overstated. He was the only one of their six All-Stars to not spend any time on the Injured List and his leadership behind the scenes were lauded and respected throughout the locker room.

The winner of the award will be announced on Thursday November 16th.
