Josh and Bo Naylor put on a show and homered again in the same inning as Cleveland Guardians rallied for a 7-6 win over Chicago White Sox on National Siblings Day. It was the second time they homered in the same inning.
The MLB has seen a lot of siblings play together throughout the years. It’s always a great experience to play alongside your brother.
In Ohio, two brothers have suited up together for another season.
Naylor brothers back at it again
MLBbros Josh and Bo Naylor are a part of the Cleveland Guardians and the brothers want to help Cleveland get back to the World Series for the first time since 2016.
In the last three seasons, there have been siblings who have played for the same team. Other than the Naylors, there was Andrew and Austine Romine: Cubs (2021) and Taylor and Tyler Rogers: Giants (2023).
Cleveland is at the top of the American League Central standings so far and the Naylors can help their team continue to be one of the best in the division as the season progresses.
“It’s super special,” Bo said in an mlb.com article. “I think it was something we talked about, joked about in the past. Seeing it come to pass is pretty wild to think about.”
“When I hit mine, me and him shared a great moment,” he said. “You just see how excited he was for me. And when he hit his, I was up on the top step waiting for him. It’s a cool moment to share with him.”
Josh setting the tone early at the plate
Josh had a productive 2023 season where he finished hitting .308 with 17 home runs and 97 RBI and could have been named an All-Star. He has wasted no time picking up where he left off.
He started the 2024 season on a five-game hitting streak and through nine games, he’s hitting .303 with five RBI and one home run.
If Josh can continue to be consistent at the plate and drive in runs for his team, he has to be mentioned in the All-Star Game conversation this season.
He has a lot of pop in his bat and can change the momentum of the game with one swing. If he can remain healthy throughout the season, he will make a significant impact for the Guardians.
Bo looking to find his role on the team
Through seven games this season, Bo is hitting .167 with a homer and two RBI. Last season, he saw some significant playing time and is looking to repeat that this year.
During those seven games, Bo has struck out in each game, but that doesn’t take away how good of a hitter he is. Once he gets settled in at the plate and becomes more comfortable, you will start to see his production improve.
If there’s one thing the Naylor’s can do, it is hit the baseball. Hopefully we will get to see these brothers stay on the team throughout the remainder of the season.
Mookie Betts was in a class of his own during Opening Week, picking up right where he left off from the 2023 season that saw him finish second in the race for National League MVP. The most versatile player in the Majors earns the top spot on the inaugural 2024 #HighFive List.
1. Mookie Betts
Betts, who recorded career hit number 1,500 via a home run off of Logan Webb Tuesday night, is off to the best start of his career as he currently leads the Majors in nearly every single offensive category through the first week.
The lights shine brighter in Los Angeles, and this season the expectations have never been higher for a Dodger team that went on a spending spree this off-season after a disappointing playoff run; headlined by their acquisition of Shohei Ohtani.
What makes Betts’ offensive output even more impressive is the fact that he is doing it while being asked to play shortstop for the first time in his career.
The law of averages will at some point bring Betts down a little closer to Earth, but I believe he is prime to join the rare company of players that have won an MVP award in both Leagues.
2. Marcus “Stro Show” Stroman
The New York native looked sharp in his Yankee debut last weekend throwing six innings and allowing no earned runs off four hits with four strikeouts in a win in Houston over a tough Astros lineup.
Stroman, who signed a two-year $37 million deal over the off-season will make his home debut in the Bronx Friday night when their American League East rival Blue Jays visit for a weekend series.
3. Trey Lipscomb
DMV native Trey “Tha Truth” Lipscomb left his mark on the Washington Nationals front office and management during Spring Training as he hit .400 with a .900 OPS, seven RBI and a .540 slugging percentage.
After an injury gave him the opportunity to be promoted to the Majors, Lipscomb has made the most of his time through his first week, slashing .357/.400/.571 through 14 at-bats. Lipscomb hit his first career home run last Sunday; an opposite field shot to right off Reds reliever Buck Farmer to break a 3-3 tie in the seventh.
This weekend, he will look to continue his early success when the Phillies visit Nationals Park.
4. Ke’Bryan Hayes
Pittsburgh is off to one of their best starts in franchise history and 2023 National League Gold Glove third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes has been a major contributor to the success of the Buccos.
Hayes started the season with four consecutive multi-hits games, becoming the first Pirate to accomplish that feat since the legendary Barry Bonds did it in 1988.
Alongside former National League MVP Andrew McCutchen and 2019 World Series hero Michael A. Taylor, Hayes has the Steel City buzzing with the hopes of obtaining the N.L. Central Pennant for the first time in franchise history.
He has both scored and driven in five runs while posting a .333 batting average and an .868 OPS.
5. Josh Naylor
In 2023 Josh Naylor was one of the most consistent players offensively in the Majors and that has carried through the first week of 2024. Naylor, who drove in a season-high three runs thanks to two sacrifice flies and a groundout Wednesday against the Mariners, is hitting .318 with a .915 OPS and five RBI.
Last season Naylor collected a career-high 97 RBI. With a better Guardian offense expected around him this season, including a full year for his brother, catcher Bo Naylor on the roster, “The Impaler” will hit the coveted 100 RBI mark and possibly finish with close to 30 homers.
“Late Night” Lamonte Wade Jr. made true to his name with two walk-off hits in the Giants’ three-game series against the Guardians this week.
Thanks to Wade, San Francisco has won five of their last six games and enter the weekend just a half game back of the final Wild Card spot, as he takes the top spot in Week 23 of our #HighFive.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr.
Numbers do not lie and for San Francisco Giants first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. they tell the story of how he is one of the most clutch players in the Majors.
LaMonte Wade Jr Hit His Second Walk-Off In Three Games!! This Bro Is Catching Fire At The Right Time 🔥
Wade, who hit the first home run of his career four years ago today (September 15th, 2019) hit two walk-offs this week beginning with a 10th inning game-winning single Monday night then a game-winning sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in Wednesday afternoon’s finale.
Wade now has a career batting average of .611 when the game is tied in the ninth inning or later, which is one of the highest in the Majors over the last 50 years.
Through the first two weeks of September, Wade has hit in eight of nine games for a .400 average, .441 on base percentage, with five RBI and a home run.
His Giants look to take advantage of their competition during a four-game set in Denver this weekend against the Rockies who have one of the worst records in the Majors.
2. Marcus Semien
Marcus Semien continued to add to an historic season for himself and the Texas Rangers. Sunday afternoon, Semien hit his 8th leadoff home run of the season, setting a new franchise record by passing former second baseman Ian Kinsler. He would finish that game going 4-for-5 at the plate with his second multi-homer game in four calendar days, three RBI and a stolen base to help drag the Rangers out of a slump that had lingered since the team returned from the All-Star Break.
Semien is leading all Major League second baseman in hits, triples, doubles, runs and is second in home runs and RBI.
The Rangers took care of business in hostile territory by winning their series against Toronto this week and now take a flight to Cleveland to face the Guardians as they look to keep their latest hot streak going despite the recent losses of Max Scherzier and Adolis Garcia.
3. Hunter Greene “Machine”
Major League Baseball’s best flamethrower occupies a spot on the #HighFive list for a second time since returning from a month and a half long stint on the Injured List a few weeks ago. Greene struck out nine in six innings of one-run ball Sunday afternoon against Jordan Walker’s St. Louis Cardinals.
He allowed only one hit and walked four to earn the fourth win of his sophomore campaign.
“If you were to ask Hunter he probably would say he was not at his best,” said Reds veteran Joey Votto. “Still, he only gave up one hit, that is how good he is.”
Cincinnati will need one of their young pitchers to assert themselves as an Ace down the stretch and through their first playoff run since 2020. Greene is the perfect guy for the job, but for him, his best ability will be his availability. His next start will be under the bright lights of New York against the Mets Friday night.
4. Tommy Pham “Bam”
Last season Tommy Pham made headlines with the “Slap heard around the world” after his disagreement with Joc Peterson over fantasy football. Now when you mention his name, it’s in the conversation concerning the best trade deadline acquisition any team had.
Since joining the D-Backs, Pham has fit into their puzzle perfectly. Penciling his right-handed power bat third in the order has given a young Diamondbacks lineup a dose of depth and versatility.
Tommy Pham Wasn't The Sexiest Pickup During Trade Deadline | But He Was The Veteran Bat Arizona Needed
This week Pham got his vengeance against the Mets, the team who traded him earlier this season. In the first three games of the series, he was 5-for-12 with a home run, two RBI and two steals. Pham is hitting .333 with three home runs, three stolen bases, six RBI and has a .700 slugging percentage over his last seven games.
5. Josh Naylor
Injuries derailed what was shaping up to be Josh Naylor’s best year of his career, but he got back to his pre–All-Star Break form to take the final spot on our #HighFive list after putting up some impressive numbers this week.
On Monday night, Naylor drove his 17th Bro bomb of the season deep into the San Francisco night sky and into the waters of McCovey Cove. Those were just two of his 88 RBI; a number that would be higher had it not been for him missing the entire month of August with injury.
Those total ranks him fifth amongst all Major League first baseman. Over his last seven games Naylor has a .320 batting average with two steals, eight RBI, two home runs, three walks and four runs scored. The time is now or never if the Guardians want to earn themselves a playoff spot.
They enter the weekend 7.5 games behind the Twins for the final playoff spot.
Chris Bolton with this week’s Foul or Fair on Cleveland Guardians 1B Josh Naylor “The Impaler,” who has continued to rip the cover off the ball coming out of the All-Star break, where he should have been a participant in MLB’s 93rd All-Star Game in Seattle.
